Camera roll disappeared after iOS 18.1 update on my iPhone 13 Pro Max

Just updated to IOS 18.1 and I believe I no longer have a camera roll?

This means I will now need to sell my iphone, apple watch, Ipad and so on. Can anyone recommend a good phone with a great camera that has a camera roll?

For me photos on my iphone is now a complete mess, Im not even gonna attempt to get my head around it, I have 56,000 photos on my phone and I use to know exactly where they all were, now i am without clue.

I wasn't talking about "Recent Days. " I use the Library. It's at the very top of the screen. To the best of my knowledge, you can't move it. It doesn't actually say "Library" until you pull it all the way down, so it takes up the whole screen. When you pull it down, you'll also see the icons for sorting ascending or descending and also "Years" and "Months".

If you don't like "Recent Days," you can even turn that off. Go to the very bottom of the screen and tap on "Customize & Reorder." You can turn off things you don't want to see and rearrange the rest. But Library remains at the top.

Screen dumps, what i mean is when i use my phone to take a pic of my laptop screen (sort of screen dump i guess) to send over to a friend for him to see, im now stuck with a pic that i dont get an option to delete. I have to connect iphone to laptop, go into iphone on laptop, search for folder, search for photo and delete from there.

Are you taking the picture on your laptop and transferring it to the phone using a cable? That's the only time a photo becomes undeletable on an iPhone (and it's been that way for years). Anything you transfer directly from the computer to the iPhone can only be removed from the computer.

Thank you. I organise all of my photos into hundreds of folders and am use to flicking down to get where i need to be in a jiffy. For me its a quick process but now i can view 3 folders at a time, thats flicking across the screen a couple of hundred times to get to W for example. This is no good to me.

With the camera roll, I use it to find the latest batch of photos taken, i can delete the rubbish, ie photo of my foot as i take the phone out of my pocket and move all the pics of my holiday, or walk in the park to a new folder called GREECE 2025 as example. I would also leave the odd special pic in camera roll for rapid access. Once bored of the pic (a year down the line) I would then move it to the appropriate folder. All of this for me is now no longer do-able.

I just need to find a phone with great camera and camera roll and will now sell all things apple, home pods the lot. If someone can recommend a phone then that would be very helpful.

Ptaxey thank you for taking the time to respond, its appreciated.

However, you can still view all your photos by navigating to the "Recent Days" collection, which displays your photos chronologically.

This isn't correct. In the Recent Days collection on my phone the most recent pics shown are for May 2024. None of the pics I've taken in June through November with my phone or my camera and which I've synched with Mac are visible in Recent Days.

Wanted to thank everyone for their replies and help.

I have 56,000 pics on my phone all named and sorted into folders. Camera Roll is very important to me because it enables me to find latest pics instantly and move to laptop to put in folders to then send back to phone now filed. So my camera roll is kept lean. BUT if i get a hospital letter in the post, I will take photo of appointment letter and keep in camera roll for 9 months until date of appointment. So my camera roll can consist of images covering up to 5 years back all in one place. Important letters, special one off video or photo taken, best pic of daughter and dog and so on, all kept in one easy to find place and not separated by date. Now i have no idea when any of this stuff can be found. I am desperate for a solution and just wish Apple had a simple "switch camera roll back on" button in settings.

This "we decide what is best for you [in reality this often means what is worst for us" attitude of Apple makes me want to switch from Iphone Pro Max to another brand... Iphone cameras are also not the best either...

It is quite naive to believe that every other brand doesn’t also decide “what is best for you”.

But buy another brand and find out. None of the users in this user-to-user forum cares what decisions you make.

I agree. Recent days is a joke. In recent days my first pile of pics is from a gig on 14th Dec 2023, next is today, then yesterday and so on. On each day there are pics which are screen shots, incoming watt-app junk, pic i took and so on. In order to delete them (as they were good for a moment only and not to keep) i have to search in 56,000 pics to locate. And there are a lot of screen dumps that are now UN-DELETE-ABLE too. Its mad. My carefully compiled photo library is turning to junk, its completely unacceptable. I now have to daily connect my iphone to windows PC, go into recent camera folders and delete from there. Before it was a simply PICK UP PHONE - PHOTOS APP - CAMERA ROLL - DELETE - DELETE - DELETE - DONE. Now I have to take half a day off work to sort. i simply couldn't moan enough.

Why do you have to search the whole Library? It's sortable by date. Everything I've acquired in the last day is at the end (that's how I have it sorted). I find sorting it that way is easiest because then the newest photos are just above everything else.

And there are a lot of screen dumps that are now UN-DELETE-ABLE too.

Do you mean screenshots? So far, I haven't had any trouble deleting them so I can't offer any suggestions.

Customizing does not, as expected, bring back the camera roll. As I mentioned before I "cut" the pix from my camera roll and organize them into folders by syncing with my mac. In my camera roll I only want to see new pictures not the 37,000 pictures I already sorted.

No, you never mentioned syncing to your Mac, at least not in the post to which I replied.

IdrisSeabright sorry i cant work out how to quote you in my reply. Thanks for the LIBRARY thing, did not know about it. That seems to change things for me, with library visible and with use of options I think I'm sorted so thank you. Still hate the fact that camera roll has gone though as now easier to delete an image i wish to keep in error. Before I was confined to camera roll and could only delete within camera roll environment.

Re screen dumps, all images are taken on the phone. What is happening is:

1) I take pics on phone.

2) I transfer images to laptop and place in a new folder called "London 2024" as example

3) I sync phone so that images go back onto phone and in a folder.

Now images are none delete-able on phone.

Not noticed this before but then my latest pics have never been blended in with the pressure images I place in folders to keep safe. many thanks for your help.

Hopefully further than the feedback on the Airpod Max. The whole world was complaining about the horrible case, the netting of the headband that becomes saggy after one year, the lack of an OFF button, the weight, the common syncing issue. After four YEARS they released a version with new colors and USB-C, no other changes...

That would indicate that it's selling well and that, in fact the "whole world" is not complaining.
