I need to upgrade my OS as creative cloud is really lagging and crashing.

I am scared I will lose files and work flow from Catalina . I have ongoing projects in Premiere and Aftereffects. anything I can do to mitigate this or is it safe?

Thank you for providing that information. The last update to macOS Catalina was version 10.15.7, which was released on September 23, 2020. As such, the issue is likely related to an out of date CC version causing the crash. Upgrading the OS should allow you to then update CC to a more stable recent version. Which OS are you planning on upgrading to? Before upgrading, it is a good idea to back up any important files. I'll include a link here for you.

It would be better to resolve the 'lagging and crashing' before upgrading the OS. Upgrading the OS as a first step is usually not the solution.

How about if you do two things. 1 - describe the problems in more detail and 2 - download & run Etrecheck and post a copy of the report here. It's a free diagnostic utility written by one of the members of the Apple Communities and is very helpful in diagnosing system problems. It does not expose any personal information, it just provides details about your system. Use the "additional text" button at the bottom of your reply to paste the report into your reply.

Thanks Martin
will do that in a sec and send it - I can't updating CC - I tried that but my system wont support it - it needs a more recent one to support the update.

Exactly what versions of Catalina, Premiere & AfterEffects are you using?

Also, an Etrecheck report as requested earlier can provide useful diagnostic information.
