Horizontal Lines on 2001 M1 iMac Display

Horizontal Lines Running Across Display - This problem just started on the monitor/display of my iMac (2021 24-inch, M1) yesterday. I just updated to Sequoia but noticed the screen issue just prior to updating. I was hoping that that may help but it did not resolve the issue. From what I've read online it seems like a number of 2021 machines are having this issue emerge? The horizontal lines begin about half way down the screen and are gradated from very faint/light to full black towards the bottom of the screen. For what it's worth, I'm based in Thailand and this iMac was ordered online. I believe it was shipped from Singapore but I'm not 100% certain about that.

I haven't noticed any portion of the monitor or housing becoming hot as others have reported and this version of the problem doesn't seem as pronounced as some other images shared in other posts either. However, the lines are there and are certainly a hardware failure issue, no? Screen shots of the affected area are clear of the lines in other applications.

I hope that there's a solution out there or that Apple will take responsibility for fixing this issue and any other early hardware failures like this. It's a great machine and I was pleased to jump in to the M1 chips early but having a monitor fail 3 years in is just unacceptable for a high-end brand. I expect more. If anyone has an update on a recall for repairs or a known fix please do share. Thank you!

That's a recurring problem with M1 iMacs:

The following topics illustrate the Silicon M1 iMac Display problem:

Other users report the repair cost at around $600. You can take it in to confirm what it would cost to repair. Then wait a while to see if a recall will be announced. If you have room on your desk it would be more economical to get a 3rd party monitor and run it while reducing the brightness of the built in monitor to dark. You can get a 32" 4k monitor from $199 or a 27" 4K from $179.

Just some food for thought.

No recall or fix problem has been announced. Also, I am sure you meant a 2021 M1 iMac, not a 2001. Your best bet is to have the computer repaired by an Apple Authorized Service Provider and then if a program is announced you can request a reimbursement. I know that is not what you want to hear but it may be your best avenue.

Thank you for this helpful information.

UPDATE - Just yesterday the lines reduced down to just two small black lines. They still run across the entire screen but are down below the icons and dock. I can live with this for a time but it would be ideal to have this issue resolved by Apple. I believe some others reported that the lines on their devices also disappeared for a time but returned later. Let's see. I'll be sure to update if that happens.
