Issues on my iPhone 12 Pro after updating to iOS 18.3.1

Since completing the update I cannot control downtime for my children's phones through Family in settings, it just freezes. I have figured out a workaround, but it is very annoying. Apple TV app won't even load, just goes to a white screen and freezes. Settings takes forever come up and trying to do anything takes a long time with lagging. And all the while the battery is getting HOT when it never did that before. I have restarted my phone multiple times and have checked for updates for the apps not working, including Apple TV, I have done all the trouble-shooting things and nothings fixes the issues. When is Apple going to fix the multiple problems this update has caused? I have noticed that I am not the only one having issues, this is VERY FRUSTRATING.

Since installing the 18.3.1 update to my iPhone 16 Pro and to my iPad Pro Gen 3, I’ve been experiencing an array of strange issues. These include random application freezes, refusal to charge (plugging into known working cables and power supplies), map overlays not showing up. In each case, the problems resolve after shutting down the device and rebooting. The only common factor in both the IOS 18.3.1 and iPad OS 18.3.1 is length of time running. I normally keep my devices alive 24/7. If I’m not using them, they are in sleep mode or on a charger. I only rarely restart them except after an update or after a rogue application hangs. These instances are becoming more frequent the longer the update is out. The non-charging is clearly an Apple issue, not a hardware issue since it occurs on two different devices of different generations purchased at different times and running perfectly before the update. The map issue is an Apple issue since it again occurs with different devices. The freezing can occur with just about any random application and more randomly - I.e. anytime.

i know several other people experiencing similar weird issues, and others.

it is hard to report these as bugs as there are no diagnostics associated.

I disagree. I experience issues with my email synching after the update - this was on my old phone. I upgraded my phone the next day and still experience the same issues. I’ve removed an email account and reinstalled and the issue is not resolved. It’s the OS upgrade.

Also, my phone now overheats EVERY time I charge it. This has never happened before the update, all of the problems I am experiencing are absolutely due to the software update, as every single one of them started happening immediately after the update and never before.

It ruined my phone, too. The moment the update finished, my lock screen stopped working—I can't click any notifications on it anymore. I also am finding that around 50% of both iMessage and SMS have "Failed to send" ever since the update, which has never been an issue before. It also seems to freeze when I open certain native apps, like Photos, or when trying to use them compounded, like taking a screenshot and then trying to send that in a message...it opens the message portion, but when I type in the recipient, the Send just stays gray. I've quit the apps, tried again, but same issue. I forced a hard restart 3 times now, but it hasn't made a difference.

18.3.1 Hate it all!!! Messages, emojis, photos, settings, emails… I hate it and wish I had automatic updates disabled but now I need to keep it on so hopefully it fixes this rubbish!

Side question… Does anyone from Apple actually read this feedback or care??!!

18.3.1 broke the YouTube iOS apps for me. I can no longer post any comments on any videos and in some cases I can’t even read comments. Everything works fine if I sign into YouTube via Safari web browser. I tried everything. Deleting history, deleting and reinstalling the app, etc. its a huge hassle using safari for YouTube in iOS.

Apple, we use our devices to keep track of our sick family members who need constant remote supervision. Since virtual Apple support essentially doesn't exist, and since most of us aren't able to wait for 2+ hours for a "genius" to help, when are we going to address this easily preventable issue?

I too am having issues. Primary being that using headphones while on a call works for a little while, then just stops! I can’t hear the person I am on a call with, but if I switch to using speaker, can hear the person talking.

During the call or while listening to a movie/TV show, it will make a weird pixilating noise (best way for me to describe)…sounds like an electronic randomization noise…then if on a call, the person is asking if I am still there.

This is extremely frustrating! It is happing with two different brands of headphones. Neither are Apple, which should not make a difference; the issue did not start until the latest update.
