Apple TV+ does not play content after age request on Mac

After updating to the latest version of macOS, the Apple TV app refuses to play age restricted content. I'm watching the Slow Horses show, and this is what happened when I tried to play the last episode of the 3rd season: I clicked the Play button, the app said that the content is for 16+, I clicked Continue, and then nothing happened. I try to click the Play button again, this time nothing happens at all - either I get an age confirmation dialogue, nor video playback. I'm 29 years old, almost 30, so the age should not be the problem. I tried to restart the app and Mac, clear app cache, check age restriction settings on the Mac, family sharing settings (I'm the admin), download the show, open it offline, without success.

I have two Macs both signed in with my Apple Account, the problem happens on both of them. The Apple TV app on my iPhone and iPad works as expected, it plays back the age restricted shows. Does anyone have any ideas what else can I do to resolve the problem?

If it plays on iPhone and iPad, then that (matching?) Apple Account’s age setting is not the issue here.

Macs may have addition custom lowering conditions set for content, through:

System Settings﹥Screen Time﹥[ʀᴇsᴛʀɪᴄᴛɪᴏɴs] Content and Privacy﹥Off|On ﹥[if On:] Store Restrictions﹥ᴀʟʟᴏᴡᴇᴅ ᴄᴏɴᴛᴇɴᴛ﹥Movies [set minimum age/rating] | TV Show [set minimum age/rating] | …

Macs or other Apple devices that are managed through MDM/corporate or edu deployment can have additional restrictions set by the organization that manages these devices. Apple Platform Deployment - Apple Support

Apple One Subscriber here, from Germany - Every content that is 16+ does not play, although i am the Administrator for the Family Plan, Apple got my full authentication and even if going through a VPN or other DNS providers it doesn't matter. C'mon Apple, for real - this ain't no joke anymore. Content is blocked on every type of device, be it iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, iPad, iMac Pro, iPhone, iPhone Pro Max. No matter the version of the underlying iOS, iPadOS, macOS it all happened after being asked if i am 16 ... Yeah, well i am, obviously - i pay for it. And no, there are no restrictions applied on these devices, no ScreenTime misconfiguration, no wrong Family Sharing setup - force quitting doesn't work, manually emptying the cache has no benefit. This can't be real ...

There are 2 more options, too:

  • Keep complaining here, make the issue bigger online so that Apple dedicates more engineers to this bug.
  • Contact Apple yourself and demand greater compensation that the last person. Again, so Apple realises they can't make this issue go away buy throwing a few people a few movies. I.e. Make the issue bigger and make this a higher priority issue.

Don't passive aggressively tell us to be quiet, Mac Jim ID. Customers and users are allowed to vent their frustration for a validly frustrating issue that is taking months to be resolved.

This implies the "me too" users are wrong and they have no right to also post their experience. Are you the keeper of the forum? The "me too" posters as you call them add gravitas and hopefully a faster resolution to the issue with the sheer volume of posts and people experience this issue. I do not believe that Apple doesn't monitor this forum.

I contacted Apple, kindly asked for compensation and this was mistaken for a refund request and my account was cancelled, kicking everyone on my family off. I had to rejoin, and was not offered any compensation.

For me, nothing is working. I am not even getting age restriction or confirmation messages. I am opening the app, clicking on a show, it starts playing sometimes with the screen going dark and that's it. Loads and then takes me back to home screen. If lucky, the Apple TV+ logo pops up and then loading, back to home screen.

Internet is fine and AppleTV plus works on Chrome. My Mac is updated to latest OS version too. Is there a fix around or my machine is the problem?
