Apple TV+ does not play content after age request on Mac

After updating to the latest version of macOS, the Apple TV app refuses to play age restricted content. I'm watching the Slow Horses show, and this is what happened when I tried to play the last episode of the 3rd season: I clicked the Play button, the app said that the content is for 16+, I clicked Continue, and then nothing happened. I try to click the Play button again, this time nothing happens at all - either I get an age confirmation dialogue, nor video playback. I'm 29 years old, almost 30, so the age should not be the problem. I tried to restart the app and Mac, clear app cache, check age restriction settings on the Mac, family sharing settings (I'm the admin), download the show, open it offline, without success.

I have two Macs both signed in with my Apple Account, the problem happens on both of them. The Apple TV app on my iPhone and iPad works as expected, it plays back the age restricted shows. Does anyone have any ideas what else can I do to resolve the problem?

If it plays on iPhone and iPad, then that (matching?) Apple Account’s age setting is not the issue here.

Macs may have addition custom lowering conditions set for content, through:

System Settings﹥Screen Time﹥[ʀᴇsᴛʀɪᴄᴛɪᴏɴs] Content and Privacy﹥Off|On ﹥[if On:] Store Restrictions﹥ᴀʟʟᴏᴡᴇᴅ ᴄᴏɴᴛᴇɴᴛ﹥Movies [set minimum age/rating] | TV Show [set minimum age/rating] | …

Macs or other Apple devices that are managed through MDM/corporate or edu deployment can have additional restrictions set by the organization that manages these devices. Apple Platform Deployment - Apple Support

I have the same issue as well. Won't work on my MacBook Pro (either via Apple TV app, or via browser), but does work on my iPhone and an Apple TV 4K. It's only any content that asks for age confirmation, everything else plays fine. I have no parental controls enabled on my account.

Could it be a country based issue? I'm in Australia. Wondering if anyone else is the same?

I've logged a support ticket with Apple about this issue yesterday.

Some of the things we tried: logging out of apple tv, logging back in. Setting up a completely new profile, logging into apple tv. Starting the laptop in safe-mode, logging into Apple Tv.

Nothing worked. The issue appears to just be TV shows, MA15+ movies would play without issue.

Apple are going to escalate it and get back to me on Wednesday, but had said that no one else had raised this particular issue with them yet - so I'm half-expecting it to be an issue with me... they did suggest I do a complete reinstall of Sequoia, but I said I'd prefer not to at this stage, as it's working in my browser and other devices, so not super critical for me, but it sounds like the next logical step if they can't reproduce it on their side... I'm in Australia too. I think the MA15+ is an Australia thing.

Similar issue here in Germany:

TV shows which are rated >= 16 don't play on macOS (15.4.x). Using the TV app on the iPhone works (same account). Episodes from the same show which are rated 12+ play without issues. Screen Time is off (but enabling doesn't make a difference). Birth date in the Apple Account should indicate I'm done with adolescence :-D

This behaviour started end of March, perhaps after the macOS 15.3.2 update? At the beginning of March I was still able to watch something like Slow Horses. MDM is not an issue either – also happens on different Macs for me (both 15.4).

I have the same error. I think problem started with OS update to 15.4. I have since updated to 15.4.1 and error still occurs.

Try to play MA15+ content. Click Play. Pop up asks to confirm 15+. Click yes. Nothing plays. After this clicking play on any MA15+ content no longer produces pop up.

Deleted the Apple TV preference file 'com.apple.TV.plist' in user/library/preferences

After this the pop up will appear again, but still the same issue.

I have contacted Apple Support, they have escalated it. I'm pretty sure the issue is baked into the OS.
