SIM card no longer works after updating iOS 18.5 on my iPhone 16

I installed the iOS 18.5 update on my iPhone 16 last night. After the update, my phone won't read my SIM card (I tried turning it on/off, using airplane mode, taking the physical SIM card out). I inserted the card into my old phone and it works, so this is not an issue with the SIM itself. How can I fix this?

I’m having the same issue, the only difference is that I updated straight to iOS 26, skipping 18.7. I sent my phone for repair, and the service gave me another iPhone to use with my SIM and number. Within a day, that phone had the same problem. Definitely not hardware-related.

I think I'm gonna take back, and ask them to downgrade. I think I’m going to take my phone back and ask them to downgrade the system. Thanks for the info.

I am having same issue with company phone iphone 12.
After update to ios 26 no sim available.
Have tried all multiple suggestions.
Removing sim card and reinserting was working intermittently for a couple days
Now only SOS
ATT store no help
It department first round, 2 updates didn't work for long

This is an old thread. Your iphone 12 is even older at 5 years old and from your description it can easily be corroded SIM contacts. Get your cellular plan provided on eSIM.

Millions of SIM cards work perfectly well in iOS26 and it is absurd to blame the iOS itself
