iPhone 14 Pro Max ring/silent switch moves in pocket

I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max recently repaired by apple and in new condition. When I put the phone in my pocket, the ring silent switch sometimes turns off. The switch is clean and clicks decisively when operated. The phone is in an apple case and I taped over the outside of the case to verify that the switch was not touched, bumped or caught on anything. The switch appears to be purely mechanical so no phone settings could cause this switch to move. All phone settings in focus etc. are off just in case.

I have put a small piece of bluetack on the switch to stop it moving and this works but I should not have to.

My previous phone, an XS Max, used to turn off sometimes although not very often. I always blamed the five year old for this but perhaps these switched are prone to failure even to the point where apple have removed the switch from new phones.

Since the switch:

  • moves on its own
  • shifts even inside a taped case
  • has a repair history
  • is known to be sensitive on 14 Pro Max

👉 Book a Genius Bar / Apple Authorized Service appointment

👉 Request a reassembly or replacement of the switch flex cable

This is covered by repair warranty and should cost you $0.
