iPod Touch won't turn on !!

I have an 8 GB iPod Touch and it does not turn on, it was working and it just went off and won't turn on. I tried to connect it to iTunes but it is still the same.

Does anyone know what's wrong and how do you fix it ?

I'm not sure whether I should be posting here or on the short battery page. Maybe I'll try both. I forgot to connect my ipod (3rd gen, 8 g, upgrade to 4.1, or whatever the latest one is) to the charger last night. This morning, it was dead, so I've had it on the charger all day and still nothing. I've tried all the fixes suggested in the other posts, and read all the FAQ's but nothing works. ITunes won't recognize it. Still under the one-year warrenty, fortunately. What can I try before I take it back?

I'm having the same issue on my 4g 32gb Touch that is only 2 months old. I can't turn it on and when plugged in to the computer iTunes won't recognize it and it isn't even recognized by my computer. I've tried holding the on/off and home key option that has worked for so many . . . to no avail! I've tried it for varying lengths of time . . . even as long as 4 minutes! Has anyone found another solution?

My son just got his touch this week. I believe there was a software update perhaps when his was plugged in. His is still working fine but I wonder if the update might have affected mine. Any ideas? Who should I contact first: local Apple store (didn't purchase it there), Apple direct? or Square Trade whom I have my extended warranty through? I'm hesitant to try Apple direct because I've heard you only get one support call for the Touch.

Thanks for any wisdom you have to offer!

I wanted to update and say that I called Apple and they ultimately referred me to my local Apple store. I was able to take it in and they determined it was truly dead and gave me a replacement one on the spot. One other thing they did have me try (while I was on the phone) was to plug in my cord to the computer and press down on the home key WHILE plugging the cord into the iPod and to hold it for maybe 10 seconds. This didn't work in my case, but I thought I'd post it in case it works for someone else who finds that the standard reset option (home key + on/off key) doesn't do the trick.

Just another note (I didn't take the time to read through all of this thread so if it is a repeat I apologize... but I too had the problem and also holding down the power/home keys together helped. I had them plugged in to my power source while doing it and had to hold down almost 10 seconds. This information was previously shared...

What I wanted to share that might be new is that I did not charge my ipod the full 4 hours before unplugging, which could have caused this. Just a thought.
