No, I think you should start at the beginning of this thread read the responses...
and find the answer about 10 answers down...

How EASY is it

How easy is it to simply to read the entire thread before posting the same question that has been answered at least a dozen times in this very thread...

to simply give an honest effort in serving those who pay for services that will HELP many of them with the same problem.

Uh, what services are you paying for?

Ok, it appears that Apple, despite everyone's desire to be able to literally delete unwanted apps from their account/from their Cloud/from whatever, despite the overwhelming consumer desire for this function, Apple in their arrogant infinite wisdom thinks you're wrong. So, you cannot delete the unwanted apps.

However, in its stead you can hide the apps you wish never to see again. The process is, naturally, laborious - after all, we're talking Apple here, and they make almost nothing easy. But give this a try:

Open iTunes. Click on the "Account" dropdown menu that appears in the upper-left of the main iTunes screen. From that dropdown menu click "Purchased". Over on the upper-right part of the screen that appears you'll see, from left to right, "Music Movies TVShows Apps Books Audiobooks" or some combination of those. Needless to say, you want to click on "Apps".

Click your device - either iPhone or iPad - where the offending apps reside. Now, I assume the apps you would like to delete are "Not In My Library" so click on that - "Not in My Library", in the upper-center of the screen. Now hold your cursor over each app, one at a time, and you'll see a little black "x" in a grey circle in the upper-left corner of the app.

Click on that "x" and the app will disappear. You may get a message telling you how you can "unhide" them, should you so desire in the future. Mind you, the app has not been deleted. But it's no longer cluttering up your inventory of apps. It's late now so I won't sync my iPhone to iTunes until the morning, so I don't know what effect this will (or won't?) have on the inventory of apps when you access them via the App Store from your iPhone or iPad. The housekeeping in iTunes should sync with our devices. If it doesn't, it would be asinine to the nth degree. I'll find out a little later.

Anyway, as if the process isn't harebrained enough, Apple thought they'd continue to make your life miserable, so you cannot hide/delete multiple apps at once. No, you have to do them one at a time. And to add insult to injury, once you start to scroll down to hide/delete an app, iTunes bounces you all the way back to the top, forcing you to have to scroll back down to where you were. Every. Single. G/d. Time.

***, Apple???

I'll be darned - so I had it mostly right. Not sure why that support article didn't show up when I Googled the issue. Maybe because most sentient human beings think of the process as deleting, not hiding, what they want to get rid of permanently. For example, I take useless stuff to the dump when I want to get rid of it for good; I don't hide it in the basement or in the garage.

If someone could only knock some sense into Apple's head and let us delete the ****** things, we wouldn't have so much contempt for their apparent disregard of our needs and wishes.

Anyway, thank you for the Official link!

Except that you aren't getting rid of them permanently. You are just putting them in a place where you don't have to see them (like the stuff you "hide" in the closet, or under the bed).

Apple does not let you delete your purchases from their database. You can delete them from a device or from your iTunes Library, but they are essentially just hidden when you do that. Basically, any purchase you have ever made in the iTunes or App Store with a given Apple ID will always be available to be downloaded as long as they are still available in the iTunes Store (of the same country).

You are most welcome for the link 🙂

Except I don't hide in the closet or under the bed things that I want to throw away. I take them to the dump, and I'm rid of them permanently, forever. By choice. My choice. There is nothing analogous to that in the iCloud with regard to apps. I've tried dozens of apps that are now hidden in the Cloud, apps that I would take to the dump if they were sitting in my garage. Millions of people are in the same boat as I - they want to delete certain apps forevermore, not hide them in the closet or under the bed for later retrieval.

I know full well that Apple does not let you delete purchases from their database, and that makes a certain amount of sense....for purchases. If you've paid for something, you may want to retrieve it later. But the vast majority of apps that people have tried and now want to delete aren't actual "purchases"! They were free apps. Customers will lose literally nothing if they delete a free app permanently, and then later decide to re-download it. And Apple knows full well which apps customers paid for (e.g. actually purchased) and which apps were free.

Why is Apple so resistant to implementing this fundamental feature that so many millions of users want ?? Why are they so blatantly and intransigently anti-customer-choice on this issue?

No, I realize that. It was more a rhetorical question than anything. I've shared my displeasure with their policy already at their Feedback link. I'm sure it was futile inasmuch as legions of people have been making this same complaint for years, yet Apple has done nothing about it. They have their reasons, and I'm quite confident that the reasons have nothing to do with customer service or customer satisfaction.

I'm with you as well...I've been "gifted" many songs and apps that I just plain didn't like after trying them. I deleted them because I never wanted to see them again. And I definitely would not want them to always be "Auto Downloading" and take up any space on any of my Macs, iPhones, iPods, or iPod Touches. I'd much rather not even see them in my iCloud.

However, this will be interesting (and I'm sure a lil' more complicated than we all think). i.e. What kind of safety steps will Apple have to implement to only delete part of you purchase or gifting history in the iCloud? Seems perhaps adding a "hiding" feature w/password would be easiest for them, so they don't end up with tons of calls or complaints the other way, too..from people that have accidentally deleted songs and Apps they really meant to keep.

But in any event, I'd still vote to be able to delete or hide, unwanted purchases or gifted songs and apps from iCloud.
