iTunes has stopped working

I have the most recent vers. of iTunes (10.3.1) and it was working fine yeterday. Today, I went to re-start downloading some video lectures from iTunes U and iTunes crashed. Now everytime I try and open it, I get the error message "iTunes has stopped working" and the only option I have is to close the program. I looked around the Apple suppport site and did everything they recommended. ie: Deleting Temp files, Rebuilding the library, opening a new library, creating a new user....nothing worked. So, I uninstalled iTunes, QT, Bonjour, etc, did a registry clean, re-booted and re-installed everything, ran the Apple Software Update. And nothing, I still can't open iTunes. Any other suggestions??? I am running Windows Vista 32-bit.

iTunes insta-crashing every time you launch it with an error in kernelbase.dll? Yup, me too.

How are you all getting these nicely formatted error messages? What I see in the event viewer is not as lovely.

Anyway, after uninstalling, reinstalling, rebooting, crying, etc, I took the hint from theresa in lake oswego, and disconnected my network connection. And then, presto, iTunes launched without a problem. I could not believe it.

Reenabled the network connection, and iTunes now launches every time.

I am utterly baffled. But it worked.

Have been dealing with this for a month. "iTunes has stopped working" error message everytime I start iTunes while connected to the internet. Uninstalled, cleaned, reinstalled, only opened iTunes on Tuesdays with a full moon, you get the picture. Starting iTunes while offline, disabling Genius and then connecting to the internet allowed me to access iTunes without keeping my internet connection closed but still couldn't start iTunes while connected to the internet.

Finally tried starting iTunes by right clicking on the desktop icon and using "run as administrator," closing iTunes, and then oepning it via the standard routes. That's all it took. I even turned Genius back on (may not have actually ever been an issue). Also good to go!

I'm a bit stunned at how easy the fix was and I can't believe that Apple doesn't fix issue (although once you can't start iTunes without it crashing means that accessing updates need to be done manually) or suggest this as a fix (if they do, they aren't getting it out where it can be found).

Good Luck!

Hey, I have had the same problam for months, I have tried everything and nothing works! I have walked through it with apple support and still no luck! It really *****! I paid for the cloud, put all my music there (Over 100 Gigs) and i now cant access it 😟 I have sent many emails to support with no luck. I dont know what to do from here, ***** because a good portion of my music was from ITunes, so probally over ten thousand bucks i have spent not inculding all the ipads (4), ipods(Too many to count) and iphones(4) i have brought for me and my family and they still dont seem to care that i cant listen to my music or even backup any of my devices. I love Apple products but if your using windows PC you dont get any love back LOL. I cant buy a new apple device until this gets figured out because i would have no way to transfer the data, and my wife and I really want the next IPad, LOL. Good luck if you find something that works please, please post it, I look here every couple days for an answer. Sorry for venting

ℹ Uninstall Apple Quicktime player. 🙂

The error I received when iTunes kept crashing ("iTunes has stopped working") mentioned something about a "fault module Quicktime", so (after uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes to no effect) I uninstalled Quicktime and that fixed the problem. Now iTunes is running. Good luck everyone.

I can't believe no one has responded to your questions since this seems to be a pretty simple fix, at least for me. Hopefully this will last. "

The moment i uninstalled QT all is working smoothly.

Thanks all.

and good luck.

My iTunes was working fine but crashing everytime I clicked on the Store. I resolved this by emptying my temp folder in my user profile - using the guidance under iTunes support. Everything working fine now (Win 7).

Previously tried:

Running as admin

Quicktime was not installed

Removing and reinstalling

A random command line fix too

Incidentally, I wasn't able to find the detailed error message on Windows 7 - just the generic 'there's a problem with this application'.
