No this is not from Canon or Apple but from Pika and I can say: it works great! I bouhgt yesterday the canon xf100 en this morning i got the files into fcpX as a .mov without problems!

It works rather quick without any compression of damage to the file.

The canon-file is changed into max 2 Gig .mov but there is no interruption when playing in the timeline.

For me I needed help to make things done but that's more my shortcoming about software installing etc.

So, the leak of support from Canon/apple there is no reason to ignore this fantastic cam.

Besides that, I hope canon will fullfil the promise above and till that moment I am very greatfull to Pica.

Regarding XfcpX from Pica, I also found it really easy to use and fast and I'm a video and FCP X neophyte. Came right into FCP X. I'm still trying to figure out the camera for green screen work in my office where I'll be videoing myself, talking head.

Anyone have any tips on settings for this type of work with this camera? I'm using the 50 Mbps 1920 x 1080 30fps.

If I keep the canon, which I'm hoping to do, I'll be donating to Pica. The XfcpX is great. Is the audio suppose to be 2 mono? Again, I may be doing something incorrect. I haven't tried hooking up my external mic yet.

I got the same: no stereo but 2 x mono.... i hope it wil be repaird someday because this not nice...

But may be it is a fcpX bug because I had this also before with other import.

Further i discoverd a bad running movie in the timeline, in fact you van not scrub, just play. Depending on the settings? I going to try editting with other settings. But that 's due to Pika. I will donate him too.

Bruce.

Mary: For use of the greenscreen: surch around youtube, i saw five days ago a clear demonstration. It's easy te do. Surch for "green screen demo" in the YT-field. You must find it.

Succes!

2 x mono is fine. You can change it to stereo in FCP. The mono recording has actually some advantages: You shoot your "real" audio from a lav or a boom, and the on-cam mic is the safety net. In post, you can decide which channel you use for output. It is pretty easy to split stereo into 2 x mono, but why going that extra step.

The XF is great for green screening. So far, I only had a short clip in front of the screen, but the key comes out very clean without much hassle. FCP X's keyer is about the best I've ever seen.

However, for chroma keying it is more important how you light your scene than what camera you use. Make sure the screen is lit as evenly as possible. Light the screen and your talent separately. Keep enough distance from the screen to your talent to prevent spill (uses flags if needed). Add some backlight to your talent.

Put some thought into your lighting, and you can shoot your stuff with a cell phone 😉

Hi guys.

The converted files are in dual mono - this is how it works in the camera, so that is what it's output. I do not consider it a bug, and it's nothing that will be repaired.

It's actually two distinct mono channels, so when you have your clip in the timeline, you select it, go to the inspector and click the Audio tab. In there, you can change it to a "real" stereo signal.

Regarding the "Bad running movie" in the timeline, that is probably due to the format is really heavy if you record in full 50Mbps. To overcome it, you let FCPX use Proxy media instead (and click to generate proxy medie on import). This will help alot. The final render for output, will still be based on the original media (hence the "proxy" part), so you will loose no quality doing this.

Green screen is all about lighting - but also about the recording. Of course, you need a good saturated and evenly lit green (or blue-) screen. Then, if you use XF100 make sure you record best quality - when you edit your footage, make sure you retaint he camera's 4:2:2 quality in the file. This means you have to be careful when you convert your video for editing. (XfcpX retains the full 4:2:2 quality). This will help alot on your keying.

And for the good news: I am, as I type this, putting the final hands on a new release of XfcpX. It's rewritten from scratch with a new, and hopefully more easy, way of doing things. I am just testing the final stuff with combining large files - if that is successful, I will send out a beta to a few testers today, and if all goes well, have a new version ready sometime during this week.

It's "XfcpX" - and I sent you a mail with Beta info :-)

For those who are curious, I am not going to accept any more Beta testers - it's more spam than I can handle ;-)

A short status is:

- Almost as expected, the installer did not work. That is fixed.

- The program did not run on Leopard at all as I was using some UI elements supported by Lion only. That is fixed, and I am awaiting response on that one.

If no more big bad bugs are found, Expect a release some time mid-this week.
