macbook air with lion not waking up from sleep

Thanks for posting this. I was beginning to think it was a hardware problem.

By the way -- I have the pixel trail problem on the new iMac so it seems it may be a Lion issue rather than unique to specific device (???)

ybba, I'm not totally convinced it's a software problem, but if you're having this happen on your iMac, then it does seem so. Did you report your experience to Apple?

Thanks for this report. I've got this problem too. It seems that it started after one of the Lion updates. I'm at 10.7.2 so it might have been the .2 update that caused the problem. It is still strange to see the grey screen on waking until I remember to move the mouse. A fix in the next update would be welcome.

I'm not sure when the .2 update was, but I posted my first Youtube vid on this back on Oct. 31, and it had been happening for a while before that. My MBA was new in July 2011 and shipped with Lion installed.

I'm glad more of you are speaking up about this. I thought at first I was the only one with the issue, and I think Support did too.

As I mentioned earlier, my MacBook Air is in for replacement of the MLB. When I return to HKG to collect it (after Dec 8) I will let you know if their fix worked.

In the meantime we all wonder what software or hardware glitch is causing this.

I called Apple and they said that the pixel trailing created by use of mouse or trackpad when iMac wakes is "normal". HUH? How can that be. Next talked to somebody else who helped me reinstall Lion but problem continued. Now debating about whether to fight the crowds and haul my iMac to Apple Store genius bar.

Make an appointment for the Genius bar; will be extremely interesting to hear their diagnosis after we seem to have received a variety of advice! If you are lucky they might take it in to replace the MLB as it has something to do with the MLP and the display or graphics.

Well, new Air. Worked fine yesterday, which was day 1, and now I have the long wake/failed wake issue. Tried all the remedies suggested in this thread. I thought my life would be simpler after shifting from Windows?

The AIR is one bad Apple and I would not recommend anyone buy it now I have has a taste of it. However the other products are much better and this is the only bad one in the bunch I have bought over the years. Since yours is new, do make a trip to the nearest Genius Bar.

Just to be clear, by design, the Air will take longer to wake up when it is left unplugged. It goes into "deep sleep" after an hour, which is sort of like Windows Hibernate. It will take a few seconds to wake up but you should notice that even after hours or a few days the battery has dropped very little. If that isn't what you are experiencing, do have it checked out. Also, if you have turned on FileVault, it will add a second or two to the wake process. However, if it is taking excessively long, or giving you a black screen, then it is likely a hardware issue. In my experience, Macs are just as prone to PCs to initial hardware defects (they are made in the same factories), but Apple's customer service is top notch, at least here in the US.

I disagree about the Air. It sounds like you got a defective model, as the one I purchased in July 2011 (Day 1) has been just fine, and so was one I purchased in August for a relative. I did have a wake from sleep issue on a 2010 MacBook Air that wound up being a bad logic board. After they swapped it, the problem stopped.

I 'might' have resolved this.

Yesterday, itunes was not working at all because of an issue with adding folders from my network drive, but the wake was fine. Today I resolved the itunes issue, and I noticed that the Air is not waking only when I put it to sleep when itunes is working on adding files from my network drive. If I put the Air on sleep when itunes is NOT working actively, the wake is fine.

At least for the last 6 tries or so. Keeping fingers crossed and praying.

I unchecked the "Put the Drive to Sleep" box in the Power Options, that might also have been a cause.
