Exchange Account "Unable to verify account information"

New iPad 2 (i OS 5.0)

when trying to sync device to an Exchange 2007 account I keep getting an "Unable to verify account information" error.

All account information is correct, trust me on this...

Tried switching the SSL and S/MIME option OFF to no avail.

I can log into OWA (outlook web access) using Safari on the device using the same credentials.

This used to work on the old iPhones and iPads but with i OS 5 it will not.

Many thanks in advance and your time!

Ladies and Gents,

Thank you all for your replies however I must now inform you that I am unable to replicate this on an iPad that I bought yesterday. (there have been NO updates to our Exchange server since the date of the original post)

I have in my hands a brand spankin' new iPad 3 / Version 5.1 (9B176)

and I was able to add my account without any problems at all.

Perhaps an update was applied since the original iPad 3 came out with iOS5 because that is the only thing that would explain why this is now working.

I will keep this account on the device for a while as a previous post by AppleSasser had mentioned that problems started after the 3rd day.

I will update you all in about a week 🙂

Thank you all for your suggestions and your time!

I'm having a similar issue. I have an iPhone4s. The Exchange connector was working just fine until recently. I hit the date for my mandatory password change, changed it at my work PC, changed it in my iPhone, then I got the Unable to Verify message. I've tried deleting the account from my iPhone, turning off SSL, etc. to no avail. I'm about to go into the server room and have a whack at the Exchange server to see if anything is odd with it, but we haven't changed anything on it since before I got my iPhone.

Hello Steve,

This is interesting because I've just purchased a brand new iPhone 4S (version 5.1.1 [9B206]) and my Exchange account has been syncing perfectly fine for over a week now.

I'm assuming that ActiveSync is enabled on your Exchange server and that you have other mobile devices syncing emails to them. Have you tried to sync your account to another device? That can tell us if there's a problem with the account if you cannot sync your account to another device as well.

How long was your iPhone 4s syncing before it stopped working?

Many thanks in advance,

JP

Is that possible guys (and forgive stupid me if I am overstepping here) that your sync problems start after you sync with your computers and settings from your outlooks being synced to your ios devices. So instead of whatever port number suppose to be used by mobile mail, your phones/ipad attempting to use 25/110 defaults.

And I can not tell you which one you do need to use, since there bunch of those choices, but you can pick it from devices that actually connect.

There is no such thing as a stupid question, they are the easiest to answer 🙂

Local Outlook settings do not get carried over to devices that sync. The devices that sync do so with the email server that has a policy established. That policy then applies to all devices that attempt to sync email (in our case we have a single policy).

With that said, why would the same policy allow syncing on a certain version of iOS but not another? Why would one device sync perfectly well and then another device stops working after a week. And all this by using the same account so we know it's not an account setting!

I'm convinced this is an Apple/iOS issue as we have also done nothing on our Exchange server.

Ultimate fix for apple ios issues, is restore and set up device as new. But before you do that I would feel better if you compared your port numbers, wouldn't feel right to do all the work associated with restore and not to do simple check of ports for primary servers. By the way as far as I know Apple has an Enterprise support department, may not be cheap. I will bet 2 cents - when they find a problem, it is not going to be ios, It will be settings on ipad for your exchange, or settings on your server. I am convinced of that.

Just to understand why, imagine you have a pc, and blame HP/Windows for not connecting to your email. Neither HP nor Microsoft have a problem in that case. You know that in your mind, you just unable to find whether it is a connection or settings. But those are the two and only possible reasons for email problems. Sorry.

Hi Jpnkaaawa:

The 4S was pre-ordered on the first day it was available for pre-order, but was delivered a week after actual release date. I set up the Exchange account on that day. It was functioning until approximately 3 weeks ago when I had a mandatory Active Directory password change. After I changed it from my PeeCee, I then changed it in my iPhone and had no joy. I have not tried to sync any of my other iOS devices to the Exchange server.

I have looked at the server settings and OMA is turned on with the unsupported devices option checked. Just for laughs, I turned off OMA, saved, then turned it back on (with unsupported devices enabled). No change in behavior.

This happens quite often problem can be with the phone or the OWA, CAS server int the sxchange envireoment.

Application pools on the IIS server can fill up do to IOS problems from all the different phone versions. resetting the pools on IIS will allow the verification to complete.

Other times you need to delete the account add back in and make sure you view and accept the certificate, on the iphone...

Also verify the phone is in data cell service or WIFFI access.
