Exchange Account "Unable to verify account information"

New iPad 2 (i OS 5.0)

when trying to sync device to an Exchange 2007 account I keep getting an "Unable to verify account information" error.

All account information is correct, trust me on this...

Tried switching the SSL and S/MIME option OFF to no avail.

I can log into OWA (outlook web access) using Safari on the device using the same credentials.

This used to work on the old iPhones and iPads but with i OS 5 it will not.

Many thanks in advance and your time!

Interesting... Pooling/queueing of items may be an issue on the server side.

I've been meaning to post an update, but real life and work issues seem to be prevalent. Anyhow, after several more attempts to establish verification on both my iPhone 4S and my iPad, I gave up. Somewhere between 2 and 6 hours after giving up, I now can retrieve and send mail using the Mail app on both iOS devices using either LTE (iPad), 3G (iPhone), or WiFi.

I was having a similiar issue... Exchange was set up just fine on my iPad and suddently stopped working. I tried deleting the account and re-adding it, without any luck. Finally, I checked with my IT people. Their recommendation was to delete the account, reset the wireless network, and then re-add the account. While I can't explain why, that did work.

I can also confirm that disabling wireless, and using the cell network to connect to the exchange server resolves this issue. The second you get on internal wifi, it can't connect to the server. I tried using just the server name instead of the FQDN while on wireless, and it did not work. This almost seems like a DNS issue. Perhaps it has something to do with having records for external inbound mail traffic, and the internal network needs a rule for internal mail traffic.

Yikes, I am having this same problem but with my iPhone 5. I had my work email on my 4S no problem for almost a year. Then when I switched it will not work. I get the 'unable to verifty account information'. If I bypass that notification and save the account anyways I then get "Password Incorrect" Enter the password for the Exchange Account. I do this and I KNOW for a fact that my password is correct, I even changed it on my work PC this afternoon in an attempt to make it work. I have tried turning off wifi, turning off SSL, resetting network settings, I have deleted it and added it, I have deleted my other two accounts and added exchange first, with no luck what so ever. Im really frustrated now. Any other ideas work for people?

Was having same problem here and though I would post my resolution.

I have an Exchange 2010 environment FWIW and had this issue with 2 iPhone 5 setups. One of them was just set up today and I applied the recent IOS update - the other phone did not (still does not) have the update.

Anyway, the settings that worked for me were not obvious or standard. In Account settings I set as follows:

Email: The usual full email address of the user

Server: fully qualified name e.g. mail.servername.com

Domain: I DID fill this in with our domain name... I know that almost everyone claims this is optional. I filled it in.

Username: I only entered the SHORT name here - NOT the full email address. - e.g. aeinstein NOT aeinstein@domain.com

Password: the user's password

Finally, in my case SSL is enabled / S/MIME is disabled

That's it

Once I made these settings changes I ditched the dreaded "unable to verify..." message.

Try this and see how it goes.

BTW: I then re-tested with wifi and OTA data - both worked fine. And this worked with and without the latest ISO patch. The fact that I am Exchange 2010 might or might not be important.

Good luck.

This article has a nice 'profile' which will increase the timeout variable. As this was the first article I found when researching i thought i'd reference it.

"Here is the fix offered by Apple:

To work around this issue, users should install a configuration profile from Apple that increases the amount of time the iOS 4 device will wait for the Exchange Server to respond to its sync requests.

Use Safari on your iOS 4 device to download the configuration profile. It may be easiest to read this article with your iPhone or iPod touch and tap the download link there"

I notice not everyone had the same resolution. Recently, we experienced this issue and none of the reset advice worked; until I went into the users exchange account on the exchange server. (this will have to be done by your server admin/IT department) Delete their mobile devices and then set up their exchange account information on the apple device. Due to the fact that I tried the other steps first I do not know if by deleting the mobile device first, would rule out have to do any of the other steps. Hope this helps someone.

  1. If this is a Microsoft Hosted Exchange account (Office365), go to the web-based Microsoft portal https://portal.microsoftonline.com and login as the administrator for your Exchange account.
  2. Click on "SETTINGS" under "MANAGE OUTLOOK AND EXCHANGE SETTINGS"
  3. Click on the "MAILBOX" that you're having trouble with
  4. Click on "PHONE AND VOICE FEATURES"
  5. Make sure that ActiveSync (Phone and Voice Features) is ENABLED as shown below:

Something I have found. I could not get my account to work after I had changed my password for my exchange account.

Everything else worked. I could login to web access on the computer, and both of my computers with outlook worked as well.

I even completely removed the account from my iphone and still nothing.

So I changed my password to something simpler, and what do you know, my phone was able to connect on the first try. So it is almost like the iphone doesn't allow too long and too complex passwords even though the exchange server supports them.
