iPhone 5 wifi issues

Okay here's my update. I went to the Apple store twice today. They were about to swap my phone when the Apple Genius talked to another employee and he instead opted to do another restore and sent me on my way. Of course when I got back home, I still had the same problem---even setting up as a new phone.

So I luckily was able to set up another Genius appointment for tonight and told them their solution did not work. This time, however, I used my iPad to make a video of my iPhone 5 and showed him how it would not load any web pages under my WPA2 network. It only connects and loads pages fast when I switch to my Guest network on my Netgear router which is on WPA encryption. I imagine that's what the Apple store is using too because I could browse on their wifi too or on my LTE. I also included in my video my attempts to connect to my portable Verizon LTE hotspot and it too showed no ability to browse the internet.

Thus, they finally switched out my phone and gave me a new one. I just completed a full restore from an old backup and it works perfectly. I must conclude that this whole issue is definitely a HARDWARE issue and that all of you should go to your local Apple store and ask for a replacement. The Genius said he'd never seen that problem before. Hope this helps!

Haven't read more recent posts, but I see the same same. My router is Cisco Syslink E3200. When I connect as a Guest I have no problem. When I connect at the secured site the WiFi indicator shows full strength the progress gear spins and nothing happens. I have an appointment tomorrow at the Genius Bar.

I couldn't connect my new iphone5 to my home wifi network either. iPad 2 running ios6 connected without a problem, but iPhone would refuse to connect. Tried every solution on I could find on forums...changing SSID, encryption, channels, soft reset, return to factory settings, reset router, etc. Was convinced it must be a hardware issue when lo- and-behold, I visit my brother-in-law and have no problem connecting to his home wifi. So came home and compared settings and tried changing everything again for hours. Frustrated, I finally called apple support and after some troubleshooting was told that there are incompatibility issues with some routers. After a internet search, we discovered that the most up to date firmware on my older netgear wgt624v3 router won't work with the iPhone 5, and the odd solution of DOWNgrading its firmware was suggested. And it worked!!! My iPhone now connects without a problem. Don't know if a similar trick will be a workaround for other routers, but worth a shot (esp for netgear owners) so good luck! Hopefully we'll get an update from apple soon so our devices will be universally compatible without taking such strange steps backward.

No wifi here either, had same issue in starbucks earlier today, certainly can't ask them to adjust their wifi settings.

My computer and 4s both connect fine, will go back to apple tomorrow and try again, will most likely return phone as I'm not making another trip after!!!!

I'm having a similar issue ... kind of. I can connect to my home wifi just fine and I can also connect to the wifi at my office, but it won't connect to the wifi at my boyfriends house. The little waiting thing just keeps spinning and spinning.

It's got to be a setting issue (and not a hardware issue) if i'm able to connect just fine at other places right?

I am, however, totally annoyed with the crappy battery power!

Also having a wifi issue of course. On my iPhone 5 it is sooooo slow. And I can't connect to it as far as i can on my iPhone 4. I'm 20 feet from my router right now on the same floor, and its going back and forth between 2 and 3 bars on wifi? Wth! In my kitchen it's back and forth between 1 and 2 bars, or it will just cut out for 30 seconds and have to reconnect. Never had issues in my kitchen on my i4. My back porch no wifi on my i5 when I would get 1 bar on my i4...

***Further more I had my iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 compare in a speed test. Multiple videos on you tube, via the native app(on i4) and downloadable app for the i5(I haven't updated my i4) Also multiple videos on the full YouTube site(because I think the YouTube app is terrible and slow by itself). Also I downloaded 3 apps that haven't been updated for the i5 yet, on both devices . The results? The IPHONE 4(not 4s) not only beat my iPhone 5 on EVERY SINGLE TEST, on the same wifi in the same spot on my bed. More than half of the time the i4 was finished and the i5 was at about 50% done or LESS. SMOKED! That is ridiculous be because the i5 is supposed to be about 4 times faster then the i4. I'm just praying this is a software issue! Come one apple, another connection issue. That's terrible!

I love Apple and their products, but this is disappointing!

Possible Fix, Please test.

My family has 3 different iphone 5's and they are all doing the same thing. All other iphones and ipads in the house get the expected results on speedtest.net app. But our iPhone 5's get around half of what the other iOS 6 devices are getting over Wifi on the same servers.

I have fixed the issue on our phones by going into Settings/Wifi/Blue arrow next to your Wifi name/ and typing test into Client ID. No idea why it helps but I was trying everything to get it working because I was blowing through my LTE not wanting to deal with slow Wifi. Issue completely resolved after doing this. Makes me think it is just a software bug that is only affecting iPhone 5's on ios 6 and will likely be fixed when ios 6.0.1 is released.

Please let me know if this helps in your situations... Could be exclusive to my Wi-Fi setup (I run all Airport Extremes and Airport Expresses).

I have 2 iphone5. The white one has no problem whatsoever and signal strength is good and stay connected. However the black one has major problem with staying connected so I wonder could this problem be mostly related to black iphone5?

Also I see on my black iphone5 that the volume keys seems to be a bit loose... like you can tab it (not push the button) and feel it move a little... very very little, whereas the white one is very firm, just like iphone4. Any other have this problem too?

I have several strange problem at my girlfriend house but I couldn't even connect to her wifi even though I typed in the right password. So for issue 1, I have wifi security at home on WEP. But two other network I tried was WPA and it showed that I'm still on LTE even though wifi is turned on and connected. Changing wifi security might work or could be faulty hardware, but its a firmware problem then I have to wait for an update? For the second issue(not connecting even though I entered in the right password) I still cannot figure out why it did that to me under her WPA settings with my iPhone 5. I ended up f*****g up her whole Internet because I tried changing her security settings back and forth between WPA and WEP, now she has to contact her Internet provider for resetting her whole network settings. Hmm.. I just hope this help bring some clarity with this IOS 6, iPhone 5,4s,4 and iPad wifi dilemma. If someone out there can clarify more for me that be great news.

Did you read the majority of the posts? That's not the issue. Most people are not even able to use their wifi connection. Some have slow speeds and loss of connection. I thought it was just in my head, until I looked it up and eventually found this thread. And now am certain after doing the speed test, that there is deffinitly a issue. A iPhone 4 shouldn't come any where close to the speed of a i5 on the same wifi, if the 4s is 2 times faster. And the i5 2 times faster then the 4s. I have no issue on my cellular network and I have unlimited, but don't get good service at home.

I am in the UK and wifi on my iPhone 5 is useless. My old iPhone 4 works perfectly.

Sat next to each other, the 4 receives full signal whereas the 5 cannot even find the network.

Tried a full restore which made no difference.

Disappointed to say the least. Looks like my local retailer will be getting a visit from an annoyed customer !

I have had the same issue with my black iPhone 5 when on wifi. no apps load including iTunes and AppStore, but they do on my iPad 2(it is using iOS6) so I called up and the Apple rep and they said I had a faulty phone. Took it into Telstra and they are replacing it. But I have to wait until they send a new one as there is no iPhones left, would love to know if they have fixed the issue, saves me waiting!

Using CELLULAR OPTION ( don't set up using

Wifi!)

Then use set up as NEW PHONE and

Not using back up etc!!

It works fine now but will it last

My wifi finally works! I restored my iPhone 5 and opt out using iCloud. I'm just using the back up to iTunes options and not the iCloud back up and my wifi finally works. Try it and see it will work for you guys also.

Same problem, WIFI issues!!! Connects to WIFI, then loses it. Then I connect and walk 10 feet away and back to no WIFI. This is really getting ridiculous. New iphone 5 and already WIFI and signal strength issues. My iphone 4 is fine and has been since day 1. Apple needs to address this issue or my phone 5 is going back!!
