Is cover flow gone in iTunes 11?

Just what the topic asks, Thanks!

Dear Eddie Cue at Apple,

You may have taken over and tried to improve on iTunes 11. I commend you for the new look, but you have taken away unique functionalities of iTunes 10 and I want to tell you that you have made me in pain and I wish to downgrade. I have tested this new beast for a few days now and here's what I have found to be utterly disappointing on iTunes 11.

UNABLE TO SEARCH WITHIN PLAYLIST

For iTunes 10 in a playlist folder, I use to be able to search on the top right hand side and get a particular song that I have already categorized and know its inside my playlist somewhere. It was quick and snappy being a perfect way for me to access a song in less than a few seconds.

In iTunes 11, I am no longer able to search within a playlist! Typing the song in search searches on the main library instead. It's counter intuitive as I am in a playlist, and all I need is find a song where I am currently located. Playlists are used not just to play your favourite tunes in a particular order. There are other ways users like me use it that help me fine tune and focus a particular group of songs. I use it to help me organize my dj list to play in a particular week, or to categorize my tracks into record labels (something Apple has even yet to add in a field for). How foollish now to go to a particular record label playlist, and try to search a song only to search the entire library and then have to go back out to library and see the search that no longer is in relevance to what I am searching for in relation to a particular grouping.

FORCED GRID VIEW WITH ALBUM ART

iTunes 11 is now forcing me to use Grid view to look at my entire album art view with album art, however when I play a song on the album, it won't let me just edit that songs genre, comments, etc etc. I have to switch back to list view to edit or press command i to get into its details. How inconvenient. Another Grid view frustration - I can't play random songs or manually jump to a song I like. I have to click twice on every album cover to see if I have the right one or drag up to the up next pop up which is always hidden. Why is Grid view only Album centric? Why can't it be listing songs out like cover flow, where there is a fabulous balance of album art flick through and a list of tracks with album art on the side when you select on the track even when a song is playing. What is also hilarious is that in Grid view, I play a 3 track EP, and after the third track it doesn't jump to the next album on the grid. Wow Apple...

COVER FLOW and ALBUM ART ON SIDE BAR

I know everyone has shared their issues here. I buy many songs daily as I am a DJ, and I rely on album covers to help me quickly link to a certain release that I am looking for. That is why designers create consistancy in album art for their record labels - for easy recognition. As artists are so new, many names I have never heard of, I usually rely on album art to quickly zoom in on tracks that I am looking for. Without cover flow I am basically rendered hopeless. This is the same process when I walk into the record shop and to find particular recognizable record covers of labels that I love.

When you play a song on iTunes 11, you cannot show album art of any other tracks you are selecting and deciding if its the next track you wish to play. I have no idea which song that is without showing a preview of my selection. It is huglely frustrating!!

I just hope Apple waks up and add these functions back in.

Sent to Apple:

Please Apple... bring back Cover Flow and configurable cover art size in grid view. I'm sure you can simplify the interface, without sacrificing functionality. These two functions are basic for me to manage my music collection. Please, you could allow these functions enabled by user preferences.

Please send Apple some feedback too

I had a collection of 500 CDs and I spent around 2 weeks to transfer them to iTunes, scanning cover art. And now all this cover art is just in thumbnail view!!! What a shame! I've sent already my feedback to Apple. And will definitely vote in abovementioned facebook campaign. Hopefully Tim Cook is a better listener than Steve.

I have never jail broken my iPhone or done a scary hack on my Mac. I've never had too - I've always trusted Apple to only make things better and never take away really cool features I've come to love, and I've never been disappointed until now with the loss of Cover Flow in iTunes. From what I've read a hack is the only way to get iTunes 10.7 back. Wow. Apple - please do a hot fix soon and give us back Cover Flow. I'm really uncomfortable running a hack but it's that important to me to have Cover Flow back. I made an effort to find high quality cover art for most of my music, but now it's all been reduced to the size of a postage stamp in iTunes 11. At social gatherings friends could always glance at my screen from across the room and see what's playing. Alas no more. Major step backwards.

Someone who couldn't have their way at Cupertino with Jobs around clearly has the power to finally get Apple pointed in the right direction. I wish them well with that. I've made up my mind what I'll be doing and couldn't be bothered saying what that is or why. It's beyond pathetic, it's complete contempt for their own customer base. If they can't work out what it is they're doing that so irritates loyal customers that they abandon an entire product ecosystem, then frankly, they don't deserve to retain that customer base at all.
