My MacBook suddenly started running slow

Hello! I've had my MacBook Pro for since 2010 and it suddenly started running slow. This has been going on for a week already. I've restarted my MacBook many times and when I'm not using it I shut it down. I've tried many things to make it run faster and deleted 14k files that were mostly text documents, pictures, videos, etc. and deleted my whole iTunes library hoping it would work but nothing. I currently have 77.07 GB left but space has never been the problem since in the past I've had 10GB or to the point where I had no GB and it still ran perfectly. Two things I've noticed is that when it gets hot it starts running slow and also when I start watching videos on youtube or ones that are already in my MacBook. Last night I reset my SMC hoping it would work better and it only ran slow because of the heat but I see no change. I'm trying anything possible to fix this myself before taking it to the Apple Store and spending money on something I could've probably fixed myself.

Here's some information on my MacBook

OK, here we go:

notes: when I say uninstall I mean uninstall with the uninstaller for that app.

1. Uninstall Protech, you do not need it, it does nothing for you, some call it crap.

2. If you really need Java, in the settings then security tab, uncheck "allow in browser" and put it on only when you need it.

3. Uninstall little tools like Bamboo, Motocast, Spyder. Remove them from the Users&Accounts/LoginItems too (with the minnus sign underneath). I am not really sure about Motocast (motorola, you may need it, check the compatibility).

4. If you do not need the Wacom tablet anymore, delete all the software for it, otherwise check if you have the latest versions of that software.

5. Delete the Citrix plugin in yourname/Library/InternetPlugins.

Restart the computer, empty the trashbin, run another etrecheck list, I will look at it in 12 hours from now.

Thank you for the information.

I have no idea how to remove Protech from the startup disk utility where is states it's location. I've never used it that I'm aware of nor am I actually able to locate it separately from the disk utility. Should I contact a tech to have it removed? OR is not that big of a deal?

The other items on the list are items that I use in my business.

Bamboo and Spyder both for editing purposes.

Motocast is for my Droid systems.

Citrix is needed for the webinars we teach and attend with.

Java, I do need more than not. Thank you for note to uncheck "Allow in Browser"

Peace,

Gen

The only thing that is really important and must go is Protech6 (Nalpeirond) that is counterproductive and useless, causes issues often. It is also outdated. There is no information that an uninstaller exists, thus we do following:

Go to Macintosh HD then click the Library folder, in there click the StartupItems folder, delete the Protech entry.

It is running, thus you must either restart the mac, or logout then login again, after that empty the trash bin.

(There is a small chance that you do not find it in that StartupItems folder, then go to Macintosh HD/System/Library/StartupItems and delete it there. Be very careful in the System folder.)

That is all, should run impeccably now.

Lex
