Unable to connect to network printer

After installing Mavericks i cannot print anymore on my network printer.

The printer has connected to a Windows XP pc, i see it under settings Windows printer but when i launch a print the printer goes into pause state. The message i see is "unable to connect to printer".

I had this connection since Snow Leopard > Mountain Lion and it has always worked.

I too have the same problem and Apple Tech tier 2 have been working on it for 1 week now.

BUT a Microsoft Tech about an hour ago had me run the netowrk diagnosis ON THE APPLE, and GUESS WHAT - Apple can see the internet but CANNOT SEE the PC that the printer is connected to.

NOW solve this network problem and tens of thousands of dissatisfied Apple users might be a little happy for what Apple has done - THANK YOU MICROSOFT !

I agree with you Andy BUT as of 11:30am today (Nov 3, 2013), both the customer support lines and the Apple tier 2 tech's DENY there is an apple problem.

Both suggested FOR THE 6TH TIME, that I delete and reload the print drivers and download the newest HP drives - TO SOLVE AN APPLE NETWORK ISSUE.

Hopefully someone / anyone at Apple will see the magnitude of the number of posts and say to their superior "BOY DID WE SCREW UP !

WE SHOULD FIX THIS NOW AND STOP LYING TO CONSUMERS WHO HAVE PURCHASED OUR PRODUCTS AND IN TURN, GIVE US OUR JOBS !

I, too cannot print through a network printer since installing Mavericks on an iMac. The brother printer is connected via USB to an XP PC. And yes the drivers are current and correct. This configuration has been perfect for the 2 years the Mac's been here. A printer "Reset", uninstalling, and reinstalling does nothing to help. The printer is there - bit in "Pause" mode. Pushing resume does nothing.

I believe that the problem, given the number of people and the breadth of hardware (printer/scanners) affected, makes this no longer a "user" problem but an Apple problem.

If for whatever reason a fix to this is not provided soon, Apple should provide a 10.8 software kit to enable us to to easlily and cleanly revert back to where we were before this "free" Maverick nonsense.

Get your act together Apple and provide a fix to this NOW.

Agree that this really shouldn't be a problem with no solution. It's clearly a Mavericks not working correctly with the Win XP network or perhaps even any network although most people on here seem to be XP networks. This is likely to be hitting those of us in small businesses who set up printers on old computers running XP or similar. I think Apple should really take seriously the impact they are having on those (and other) types of people.

I would definately prefer to rollback to where I was on 10.8 as there's not enough return for Mavericks. I guess you get what you pay for, but actually that would be OK but I've had funcationality (like printing) removed from me. That's not on!

I'm a small business owner as well and figure that I cannot wait for Apple to get their act together on this. This problem has prompted me to just purchase a new wireless laser printer which will also allow us to print from our mobile devices.

Apple should not have created this problem for any of us and they have yet to respond to their customers about this issue that they have clearly caused with the 'upgrade' to Mavericks. I usually don't jump to the .0 release of anything and am very much regretting my rash decision to do so with this!

Never again!

I'm trying to print 10.7 to 10.9 (it works the other way around), so it's not an XP issue, which is why I'm asking for a simple software kit (which Apple stopped delivering after 10.7) to enable us to get back to where we were.

There is no excuse for not providing a software DVD (as downloads of n gigabytes over the network makes it difficult for us in outlying areas) when you buy your lap or desktop.

I'm sure the cost of the media would not hurt Apple's bottom line.

For all of you having this problem and have tried SQeek solution and have received the Interupted - Filter Failure, it seems your options are clear..1. Go back to Mountain Lion. 2. If you can't, buy an external print server so you can assign an IP address to your printer. You can get them reasonably priced anywhere. 3. Buy a new printer that is compatible with iPrint or one that has ethernet connection.

While Apple has put us all in a bind on this new OS, it is up to us to keep ourselves operation. For my business, I chose option 1 since I purchased a Time Machine with my MAC. That investment has paid off!
