QTKitServer Safari Web Content
MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)
I elimated the appearance of QTKitServer in Activity Monitor by disabling the extension ClickToFlash. I disabled it a week ago and haven't seen any occurences of QTKitServer in Activity Monitor since.
I'm now using the Safari Privacy feature that allows one to mangage website settings to block adobe Flash Player. (Preferences -> Security -> Manage Website Settings...) Here's a description of how to use this feature:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57609106-263/manage-plug-ins-on-a-per-site- basis-in-safari-7/
According to the article, this feature is new to Mavericks Safari version 7.
Mac4Life2012 is correct. The QTKitServer problem also effects other applicationbs including Aperture:
This occurred when updating an Aperture library with no browser open and was associated with excruciating slowness in updating an Aperture vault; taking hours instead of a few minutes. So we have learned the bug is not limited to Safari, not limited to method of Mavericks installation, and occurs on MB Pro, Mac mini, and MacPro.
Hmmm. I was thinking it was most likely a bug in Mavericks. Glad you let us know that. I suppose we'll have to wait and see if Apple fixes the QTKitServer bug with the next Mavericks update (10.9.1). I haven't really suffered any serious issues from the QTKitServer not responding, but it shouldn't be doing that in Activity monitor. Being the perfectionist I am, I don't like a red, not responding process in Activity monitor at all. Oh, well, I guess that proves that it's not specifically related to Safari 7. That's good to know.
Having the same issues whenever in Safari. Started after updating to Mavrick-to many QTKitservers and I have a spinning ball festival. Just returned from the Apple genius-I was told this is being caused by a third party using QT Project and they sent me on my way. Would still like an answer!
That doesn't solve the problem for many people. I don't even have the ClickToFlash extension, and I still get QTKitServer not responding processes in Activity monitor. Also, these QTKitServer not responding processes do NOT only appear in Safari web content, but they have appeared in Mail.app for me, too. However, the QTKitServer associated with Mail.app has only appeared once for me. Most of the time, QTKitServer is not responding with Safari web content. Other people have had QTKitServer not responding processes associated with other applications as well.
This is the last time I will post here. I have started a new thread on the issuses that I believe this QTKitserver is a merely a symptom.
But seriously, as IT "professional" you do not know that "launchd" can spawn over 20 subprocesses? Or it can "spawn" the "sh" prcess which can call/spawn the "sed" process, multiple times, and these can eat more than 60% of the CPU for minutes before the system decides to give up and kill them. Processes spawned by "launchd" are the most likey culprit to the SWOD. The "launchd" manages processes, processes for the system and users. It is Macs preferred way to launch deamons (ie, spawned processes). It is processes spawned (launched) by "launched" that are where the issue is. Which processes, Apple initiated or third-party is unknown to me, but there should be code within OS X to trap and gracefully degrade poor code by error trapping.

Please stay within this thread where you are comfortable.
Thank you for confirming all my points, Andrew!
"…there are quite some people really trying to solve the issue but nothing happening on the Apple-side (evidenced by the fact that 10.9.1 did not solve the issue)"
I acknolwedged and appreciated the efforts by people like you but I'm missing Apple's participation.
Also, it seems that some of your rant has been removed by the host, too. "That says a lot, don't you think?"
Lots of time wasted, indeed.
In reference to the original point: I have a MacMini running almost without any 3rd party extensions (use it for iMovie, Aperture). Same issues here. No Flip4Mac installed. Perian I don't know. Certainly not installed.
The issue is that sometimes those crashed processes have an impact on the cooling of my MBP. The fan goes havoc or the machine gets hot without the fan. I found that phenomenon in other forums as well. Killing the crashed processes gets the fan to normal. So, there is some connection here.
Mac MacBook Pro has the 3rd ⚠ motherboard now. I know that this is a know issue (mainly thermal issue). That's why I'm so nervous about cooling.
No. It is not still occurring. This thread in this forum is about not respond QT KIT SERVER processes that have been fixed in OS X Mavericks 10.9.2.
This is not about Safari Web Content (Not Responding). That is a whole different process. Sometimes, that process will fail, but just close down your Safari browser, open it up again, and then you're back to business. No big deal! Plus, further updates of Safari 7 will get better and better. So, have fun, and don't worry! Cheers!
Try this...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Cllick Go.
Yes a clean install should solve the problem entirely.
You can read interesting post about it
http://www.infiniteloopmobile.com/2013/10/safarigate-qtkitserver-process-kills-s afari-and-my-mac/
It may have something to do with LittleSnitch. Sometimes I block webcontent in Mail. Could it be that the WebKit doesn't swallow it?
After you do that move "FlashPlayer.plugin" to the Trash
THEN REINSTALL Flash Player.
I did all what you say. Delete DefaultBrowser.plug-in from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins,
restart Safari, check Activity Monitor
But, it was help only for few hours.
I install Mavericks over the 10.8.5. If i will do clean install, help it to me?
Maybe I must delete something else? In /Library/Internet Plug-Ins I have
Here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3245315 I read I must unstall 3ivx. It can help me? (I think it is not real help, because these topics was in 2011 year)
These hangs constantly return and they DO have an impact on the machine. The fan runs like nuts and Safari becomes like molasses. Going into the monitor every other hour and delete the crashed processes does not look Apple-like to me. It is more of an XP-feeling...
I also have a hard time understanding that there is nothing to be found from Apple as to how and when this is going to be fixed.
So far, Mavericks runs like a charm. However, this is starting to ge annoying.
