How do I turn off the silence ? ( I do not want either always nor only while iPhone is locked).

I understand you're confusion. But sksimpson didn't say there was a setting on the "iPhone" to not make/accept calls while logged into iCloud. Her original statement was, "I also had to make sure that none of my devices were linked to make or receive calls when signed into iCloud." She meant none of her "other" apple devices such as macbook pro, mac, iPad, etc.

If you have "other" apple devices linked to iCloud, there is an option on those devices to answer calls to your iPhone cell number on those devices too. I had to turn that setting off on my own macbook pro so it wouldn't answer calls to my iPhone because it was annoying. I just turn it on if I'm expecting a FaceTime call that I want to take on my laptop.

I don't know if that feature on the other devices affect how calls ring or don't ring on one's iPhone when it is locked or unlocked. But I thought I'd point out that her original statement was referring to that, and it is not a setting on the iPhone itself, nor a setting specific to "iOS" but to "iCloud."

There were actually a couple of different problems that came up in this thread. Which one do you have? Explain what you're trying to do, what happens when you try and what steps you've take, so far, to troubleshoot the issue.

Thanks Meg for the offer of help. I may have sorted it. My problem is that the phone does not ring when the screen is locked. I tired a few things around the accessibility settings which didn't make much sense and didn't work. After my post I then noticed the post about the Lock Screen Sounds setting so I have tried that and on first test that seems to have sorted it but I need to keep checking as the issue may be intermittant.

and when my phone goes into locked mode, calls go directly to voice mail, MY PHONE DOES NOT RING AT ALL . It is due to the stupid silence feature in the DND settings. You have only two choices 1. Silence ALWAYS and 2. Silence when iphone is locked. Why isn't there a silence NEVER choice?

You can say it as many times as you like but if so many people are experiencing this problem when they do not have the DND feature turned on then you should acknowledge/address the glitch or the software issue that is causing this for so many. Maybe my phone does have an issue but at least a certain percentage of 1578 other people reading this discussion also have this same experience.

I acknowledge that you have a problem with the phone and gave you suggestions for resolving it. Which ones have you tried?

Since updating to iOS 11.0.3 my iPhone automatically stays locked in do no disturb regardless how many times I turn it off both in settings and the control panel at bottom of the screen so I am not receiving any incoming calls it doesn’t even vibrate why?????

That is a big problem! I have my work email on the phone and there is a requirement for it to be locked automatically (no way around it). I would think the most basic function of a phone is to RING! There has to be an option for the phone to ring even if it was locked..it's so frustrating and unbelievable!

Please, Apple: there has to be an option for the phone to ring even if it was locked. Some of us have no option other than locking their phones because of work email settings. I just need my phone to ring!

Jesus Christ...rocket science hidden buttons just to allow your iphone to ring when someone calls you. It's been great for business missing calls since the last software update Apple. Thanks!

What?

There's no setting for this in iOS.

There is, however, I posted this prematurely as I'm still having issues. I'm in process of doing a clean install. It's very frustrating.
