Ios 8 personal hotspot is gone!

I hade same problem. I fixed my personal hotspot problem by typeing internet APN settings same for hotspot APN (username and password) Under Settings/Mobile/Mobile Date Network

After the upgrade to ios7.1, I'm unable to use personal hotspot. When I click setup it prompts me to contact my carrier … works for IOS 7.1 and IOS 8

Yes your cellular operator will give you the APN setting or you may also Google search for APN Settings for your carrier.

Ciao scusatemi senon parlo in inglese , ma cercando di capire iul tuo prebllema con il iphone 5s , mi sembra troppo assurdo che non ti funzioni bene la condivisione di rete con ios 8 anche perchè ios 8 dal punto di vista carateristico fa pena ogni volta che resta senza batteria devi sempre imettere il pin della schedda sim , pero ritornando a te anche io sto usando ios 8 e certe applicazioni tipo impostazioni mi si chiude al improviso , poi ce un app chiamata salute che è totalmente inutilizabile perche non risponde alle richeste che gli faccio , siri non e in grado di ripruderre la musica in un altra app , poi siri non mi riconosce la mia identità non so più cosa fare. Io consiglio di fare un down grade a ios 7.1.2 e migliore che c'è funziona bene anche se non ha tutte quelle aggiunte di ios 8 come i contati e come (ehy siri ) mi sembra assurdo .

The hotspot name is the name of your iPhone.

Settings > General > About, tap the Name and put a new name in for your iPhone

The question is why do you have to go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Network, scroll down to "PERSONAL HOTSPOT" and add some random thing in "Username" or in "APN", "Username", "Password" to get it to work? This screen didn't even exist on many other iOS versions. How is one supposed to know they have to do all of this to re enable the personal hotspot feature? Clearly this is a bug.

I have the iPhone 4s. My Personal Hotspot also disappeared after the upgrade to iOS 8.

I followed the APN instructions and now I see in the menu: Set Up Personal Hotspot which is weird as I had used it before so not sure why I have to set it up again but oh well.

The problem is that when I press it, I get an error message: To enable Personal Hotspot on this account, contact Carrier.

Is this normal?

If you bought your iPhone locked from a carrier the carrier probably has control of this and can turn it on and off. If you bought your phone unlocked I would hope the carrier cannot go in and disable this feature but who knows.

I bought it unlocked. Will give them a call and see if they can sort something out (though I doubt is as they're pretty useless)...
