iPhone 6 WiFi Issue

I currently own an iPhone 6 Verizon and I get WiFi speed around 1 Mbps. I know it's not my router because the WiFi works perfectly fine on my laptop and my Dad's Galaxy Note 3. I have reset the network settings couple of times, and even though it would get my regular speed back for half an hour or so, it would decline to around 1 Mbps. I have also tried forgetting the network and reconnecting, but the same thing with the previous problem happens. The WiFi networking is off, and my phone is running iOS 8.0.2.

Again, if this was a problem with the iPhone 6 there would be double-digit thousands of people reporting this, not just a handful on a few forums since Apple has sold at least 10 million iPhone 6 units and they've been out in the wild for over a week now, along with iOS 8.

It is possible that the issue you're reporting is not real. Samsung benefits from any lack of confidence in Apple, and is well known for astroturfing comment boards on the Web.

if you really had a problem like this, you'd should be taking your phone and problem to Apple. All iPhone 6 phones are still under full warranty. The community forums can't solve this for you.

I hate to sound like a broken record but I'm also having wi-fi issues. I am not having any problems with speed, my issue is that the phone drops wifi, usually after it's been idle for a while. The only way for me to get back on wifi is to restart the phone. I also own an iPad 4 that like the phone, is using 8.0.2. and I have absolutely no problems with wifi connectivity using that. I habe tried about every solution given here on these boards and eventually the same problem returns.

I have an iPhone 6 64. Prior to this a 5s and never had an issue. In fact there are probably 12 different devices on my wifi and none are dropping it. When my iPhone is dropping and my iPad isnt and both are running 8.0.2. It leads me to believe this is definitely a hardware issue and Apple needs to address it.

SInce I bought my phone through Verizon, do you recommend going to them to report the issue or to the Apple Store?

This solved my problem too. i just bought the Iphone 6 and my WiFi at home had WEB encryption i tried everything but nothing seems to work and then i saw your answer and I used my Verizon Jetpack MiFi and this Verizon Jetpack has the WPA2 encryption so i tried with OOKLA and it has been about 15 minutes and the speed of the internet never drops so I think it is a security bug that is making WiFi with WEB encryption to drop. i had this problem only with my new Iphone 6 i also have Iphone 4,5,5s and all of them had IOS 8.0.2 and non of them had the problem only iphone 6 had this problem.

Thanks for your help

Just to give you my chain of events. I'm now on my fourth iPhone 6 Plus - All brand new retail replacements (Not via genius bar). All four of them have been running iOS 8 and then 8.0.2 and unfortunately they have ALL exhibited the same wifi issues :

1. Cannot connect or find any wireless networks - Reboot required
2. Wi-Fi connected with full coverage but no internet or activity - Wi-fi toggle on/off required.
3. When phone is left idle/sleep for long periods of time especially overnight wifi remains connected with full coverage but needs a on/off toggle to restart connection.
4. No speed issues - Always maximum when connected so not facing that issue. 5. They have mainly been on my 5ghz network but similar issues do occur when tried on 2.4ghz.

Now the thing that leads me to believe is that this all down to software and only certain routers/ network setups is that I have got a work 5S that had no issues on i0S 8.0 on my my network but yesterday when I got my latest plus I updated both 5S 6+ to 8.0.2 and configured them exactly the same on my 5Ghz network. This morning they both exhibited the same wifi issues and when coming back after a 6 hours the 5S that had worked perfectly before couldn't detect wifi on my 5G network.

This shows that its a iOS 8 issue that only caused issues with some devices that are connected to a certain routers.

My brothers got the iP6 in his house that has no issues with his router.

So bottom line no need to get hardware replaced 4 times like me, we just have to wait for apple to address the issue in the next update and live with the unstable networks for a bit long which I appreciate shouldn't be the case for devices that we all pay so much for!

Other than that I love my ip6+ - By far the best phone I have ever owned!

I have been dealing with this problem since launch day. I have tried everything with my current set up with no luck. I was running an ActionTech M1000 modem with a Linksys Wireless G Access Point. I updated the firmware on both first. I then changed from WEP, to WPA, to WPA2 and kept losing my WIFI connection have a couple hours on each. I tried instead of using mixed Wireless G and B and tried just one or the other with no luck. I finally got my hands on a Actiontech PK5000 modem with built in wireless. I am running WPA2 on this modem for 2 days now and I have not lost my WIFI connection once on mine or my wife's phone. Im not sure the other modem and access point where just outdated or run down, but my problem has finally been solved. Best of luck to everyone else!

Just a quick snapshot of my chain of events. I’m currently on my fourth iPhone 6 Plus 64GB here in London, UK. Every time I have spoken to AppleCare and told them that I have gone through all the Wi-Fi troubleshooting methods possible they have asked me to get a brand new retail replacement as I’m within my 14 day return period. I’ve been experiencing the following issues:

  1. Wi-Fi disconnects and switches to 4G (Restart required for temp fix)
  2. Wi-Fi is still active but there is no traffic or activity– often when in sleep mode for long periods of time. (Toggle Wi-Fi on/off for temp fix)
  3. Wi-Fi disconnects and cannot find any networks (restart required for temp fix)
  4. This has been occurring on both iOS 8 and 8.0.2
  5. The issues are the same on both my 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks
  6. This is affecting my ip6+ and 5s (5s used to work perfect on ios7 on same networks) – My MBP-R and all other devices run perfectly on my network.

I spoke to AppleCare again yesterday and asked for their advice as its now my fourth iPhone in just under a month. This time they said that apple were fully aware of the Wi-Fi problem and that new repair tickets were not being raised for their engineers as they are already working hard to get this resolved. They also said they could see all the issues raised on the apple discussions boards which they usually don’t admit too! I asked what to do next and the advisor apologised and said this is clearly a software glitch and will be resolved in the next update. I asked for a timescale but unfortunately none was given.

As stated above I have tried all the troubleshooting methods discussed on forums and on tech websites but the only thing that gives me a stable connection without any disconnects (especially on my 6 plus) is turning cellular/mobile data off when I know I’m going to be on Wi-Fi for a sustained period of time (e.g. at home or work). I appreciate this is annoying but it’s the best temp fix until an update comes out.

Hope it helps everyone who is having issues with their devices that have cellular functionality.

Any comments welcome

I have a similar issue. I have a TP-LINK 841 router using at home with my other devices which are so far without problem. I try to connect with my Iphone6 plus, connection at the beginning was fine but after a while I can't go anywhere, it just kept loading until it says network failure. It comes back normal after I reset the router but the connection freeze minutes later. Don't understand what happen.

Router 841 is using with my Android and computer so far no complain, so I don't think it's the issue of my router 841

Then I tried to connect my iphone with TP-LINK 702, and they match perfectly. So does it mean there are glitches with iphone6 plus?
