phone call from Yosemite does not work

Calling from Yosemite does not work at all. It attempts a call using iPhone but then it say "Call failed" / "Try Again" Anyone has a cure?

EDIT: Yes I am on WiFi. Both the phone and the computer are on the same WiFi. iPhone is running iOS8...

that is correct. If fact using the beta these feature does not use BT. works with Apple Id. well not entire correct. Since i am 1 of my 4 apple devices, i will test that later. I am sure that works with id that you use on the face time. I add these since in here, all the users have different id for face time and Imessege, but we use 1 apple id for the app store and iTunes. since we share the account on movies books and tv series and also the apple tv.

I will check that during the the following weeks since there is 2 computers that i can not upgrade to yosemite since the cannon plotter can not work with yosemite yet. cause drivers.

I was on withe Tier 2 support for 3 hours yesteday and they could not figure out why my calls coming in and going out have failed. I have 2 Imacs a late 2012 and a late 2013 (that one works) the 2012 is the one that doesnt work but according to Apple it should There is obviously a bug in system that high level support couldnt fix. FYI they had me redownload Yosmite but have to call back for further instructions

I was also with the tier 2, senior tech, for 2 days now.. they couldn't figure it out, did the download again, they even remoted into my system. Ended up doing some sort of file capture which is then sent to the engineering team. Supposedly they will read the logs and be able to figure out why my calls , both coming in and making calls, keeps failing in facetime. My husband downloaded yosemite yesterday onto his MBP - and it works fine.

UPDATE: I restarted my iPhone several times, and then the option/tick box appeared (and pre-ticked). I don't know how or why it should be that way, but it was. I thought, "Great! Let's see if that works for my MacBookPro!" But before restarting I looked at the FaceTime preferences again and found that it, too, had changed/updated. Bottom line: I am making calls from my Mac with no trouble now.

I'll leave it to the experts around here to say what was going on (and no, I wasn't hallucinating or just terminally clueless -It really did happen this way), but for all of you still having the trouble of the option simply not being there, try restarting your computer/device several times and see if it updates to where it's supposed to be.

In fact, with all of our technical prowess we often forget just how powerful a restart is at solving unexplainable problems. It really ought to be the go-to option at the start of any troubleshooting. 😊

I have this problem as well but a little different from everyone else. Yesterday when I installed Yosemite I went to FaceTime and the check box for use cellular was there.

Today, I have no check box in FaceTime preferences, and I don't believe I did anything. No updates, etc.

I was evan making calls and receiving them earlier this evening using my cell phone, but now for some reason the check box in FaceTime preferences has disappeared. Any help?

Latest response from Tier 2 support after spending 3+ hours working on fix

During the process of trying to figure out what happened here as to why it was working on one computer perfectly and not the other, the official update in order to make the features work is actually due out today for you iOS devices it will be iOS 8.1, we have known cases where continuity and handoff applications are working with some systems but not all and at this time with the update due out today I would like you to wait until it is out then try it with the 2012 iMac. It should be working if not in this email I do have my updated schedule attached here and we should be able to get this all resolved today once the update arrives.

As a quick follow up. I read the simplicity from another user on here about signing out and restarting, and also changing the UUID on the Advanced User panel. I did both of those things. Changed the UUID, signed out of everything, signed back in and restarted twice.

On the second restart, the functionality returned. The check box to allow cellular calls returned to FaceTime and it's been working ever since even past 3 restarts.

Not sure which of those things actually fixed it, or if any of them did. I have an early 2011 MBP so even with the new update my computer is not capable of continuity because of the bluetooth version, so I don't think the issues are related.

Thats what I know.

8.1 did nothing to fix it.

I did receive a call, but I continue to get "Call failed" when I try to make a call. This is after logging out and back in on both phone and Mac. Also did a PRAM reset earlier today.

My router has both 2.4 and 5GHz, but I've been careful to make sure both phone and Mac are on the same network.

Anyone else get further ahead?

As you also discovered, if you happen to have a MacBook Air that's both on a wireless network and connected to a wired network via a Thunderbolt display, you can't initiate or receive calls unless you unplug the ethernet cable, only leaving the wireless network active (the same network your iPhone is on). What's confusing, however, is that incoming call notifications happen, and you are still allowed to try to make calls from your Mac, but in either case, I at least get a "call failed" notification until the ethernet cable is disconnected.

This is unfortunate, and means that I can't use this nifty feature at work, where I have a 1GB hard link to the net. I hope this is addressed in a future bug fix.
