iTunes 12.0.1 cannot detect iPhone 5s iOS 8.0.2

Everything was working fine until I just downloaded and installed the new ITunes. Now the program wont recognize any of the Apple products (Ipad 1, Ipad 2, 2-Iphone 4s and 1-Phone 5s). I check each device and click "TRUST" when asking if this computer is to be trusted, but the products are not recognized in ITUNES and won't sync. I have unauthorized and reauthorized the computer, hard reset the phones and Ipads, and uninstalled and reinstalled ITunes, but to no avail.

Any ideas on this? From the numerous postings on the net, this is NOT an isolated incident. Apple needs to step up here and fix this major FUBAR.

I found this and it worked for me. Make sure to have your device plugged in!

Right-click the Apple Mobile Device entry in Device Manager and choose Update Driver Software.

  • Select "Browse my computer for driver software."
  • Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."
  • Click the Have Disk button. Note: If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and then click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.
  • Click the Browse button and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
  • Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).
  • Click Open in the Have Disk window. Then, click Next and then Click Finish. Windows will install the driver.

Finally, this very intensive article helped me - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538#AMD USB not listed

The Apple Mobile Device USB Driver was not installed. As soon as I got that installed, my iPod showed up in iTunes 12. I recommend jumping straight to the Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver Is Installed part of this article. I'm very NOT techy, and this article worked for me, so I highly recommend it.

Good luck to you all!

Same issue here with my iPod Touch 6.1.6. I have a Mac. Nothing wrong with the USB cable, I restarted the iPod Touch. Will not recognize.

When I first plugged it into my desktop, it said the "iPhone was no longer connected"??? And now it doesn't even have my iPhone listed, which it did before I plugged the iPod Touch USB into the Mac. So now neither device is recognized.

Hi

I have a brand new iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1 and iTunes 12.0.1.26. Initially my problem was my PC (Windows 7) didn't recognize my iPhone at all though it did charge. I have a brand new Apple lightning cable, it works on another computer and the iPhone is recognized. I tried all of these suggested fixes...uninstalling all Apple software then reinstalled, updated drivers, etc as outlined above. Make sure to press "Trust" when prompted. Restart PC and iPhone ad nauseam. No luck. In Device Manager the iPhone initially didn't appear in Portable Devices but in USB Controllers it appeared as Apple USB device. If I uninstall it in USB controllers it automatically pops up as Apple iPhone in Portable Devices. The computer then recognizes the iPhone and I can transfer photos, etc - but it still isn't recognized in iTunes. If I try to update the USB driver via the Have Disk fix, it pops back into USB Controllers and my PC no longer recognizes it. I can't sync iTunes wirelessly, since its never been recognized. At least I can transfer photos and videos to my computer but I still can't use iTunes and the fixes don't seem to work. Very frustrating - any ideas welcome. Thanks in advance.

You know, now that I think about it, when I updated to iTunes 12.0.1.26 and plugged my phone in, it never installed drivers as it usually does when iTunes updates. I didn't notice that when plugged in it wasn't connected via USB, because I had "Sync via WIFI" checked, so I unchecked the box because the Update button was grayed out for my iPhone. When I did that, my phone went *poof* and was gone.

Well thanks Apple, that's an evening screwing around with buggy crap update consequences I wont be getting back...

Hi Neil: I got my problem fixed by adding the missing Apple iPhone in Portable Devices. However, you already have both USB and Portable Devices showing up. Just to confirm since iTunes 12 seems to have changed the user interface again, you do NOT see the little icon of the iPhone right under the menu? This is how you access the iPhone now:

I'm slow so I didn't see this at first (LOL), and just wanted to make sure we are all on same page with your problem.
