iTunes 12.0.1 cannot detect iPhone 5s iOS 8.0.2

Everything was working fine until I just downloaded and installed the new ITunes. Now the program wont recognize any of the Apple products (Ipad 1, Ipad 2, 2-Iphone 4s and 1-Phone 5s). I check each device and click "TRUST" when asking if this computer is to be trusted, but the products are not recognized in ITUNES and won't sync. I have unauthorized and reauthorized the computer, hard reset the phones and Ipads, and uninstalled and reinstalled ITunes, but to no avail.

Any ideas on this? From the numerous postings on the net, this is NOT an isolated incident. Apple needs to step up here and fix this major FUBAR.

Hi - no device icon there, also nothing if I go into File --> Devices. And just to clarify, my iPhone would either be in Portable Devices (if I uninstalled the USB driver) or USB Controllers (if it was installed) but not both at the same time. When in Portable Devices I can access the phone via PC but not with iTunes.

Thanks

Right-click the Apple Mobile Device entry in Device Manager and choose Update Driver Software.

  • Select "Browse my computer for driver software."
  • Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."
  • Click the Have Disk button. Note: If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and then click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.
  • Click the Browse button and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
  • Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).
  • Click Open in the Have Disk window. Then, click Next and then Click Finish. Windows will install the driver.

I've tried that a couple of times and unfortunately the same result - I lose the iPhone in Portable Devices and it shows up in USB Controllers, in which case my PC no longer recognizes it. If I subsequently uninstall the driver in USB Controllers, it goes back into Portable Devices and I can access it with my PC. Still no iTunes recognition though. Really frustrating....shouldn't Apple products be able to talk to each other....?

Hi Neil: Sorry you are still having problems. Just to be thorough - have you uninstalled both the USB and Portable Devices entries (whichever still appears). Be sure your iPhone is disconnected and reboot. When you reconnect your iPhone the first time you do this, what Device appears? I assume it will be the USB, otherwise your PC won't talk to your phone at all. Just trying to get sense of when the iPhone in Portable Devices shows up....

Neil:The drivers are supposed to be compatible with each other and should appear at the same time in Devices. Just for reference, here is the info on the two drivers, one in USB, one in Portable devices. I know you are only seeing one at a time, but when each appears, are these the drivers and exact names you see when you have one or the other installed? (I am running Windows 8.1 so I think it's interesting date (2006) on my Apple iPhone driver.)

Neil:
Apple just released a page (updated on Halloween) that didn't exist when I fixed my problem. It appears to capture every suggested problem/fix and gives a methodical series of things to do. Whether it will fix your problem remains to be seen, but it is worth going through each in turn, even if you think you've already tried that step.

Well try this (TURN OFF VIRUS CHECKER) ! then see what happens. I installed I thought itunes 12.X at least it looked like it was installing? and I had all kinds of weird things going on with itunes so I uninstalled tried it again same crap. So I un installed turned off the virus checker installed Itunes again this time it took longer and wen't through a bunch more hoops then before synces my phone and all seems good reboot and Itunes runs till I plug in the phone then stops responding. So I turn off virus checker and all seems fine again something in Ituses and my virus checker don't like each other now! it worked before fine till V12.
