Yosemite killed my Snapz Pro X 2.5.4

I have been a long time frequent user of Snapz Pro Screen Capture utility but since updating to Yosemite I am no longer able to capture mac audio. Does anyone have any good alternative apps to use that work on Yosemite or any solutions to get Snapz working?

The copy of Snapz pro I use captures audio now. Upon future research though, I realize that its working because I don't current use Mac audio for sound. I use Sunflower. When Snapz Pro stopped working, I switched over to capturing with Quicktime. I had to set up Sunflower so that my videos could have quicktime audio. Apparently the same setup allows Snapz Pro to capture audio as well. One catch: it captures ALL sounds from your mac. But if you turn off notification you should be fine. I'm not sure if the audio is as good as mac audio though. Maybe the sunflower app can be adjusted.

I used this link when I originally set up audio for Quicktime: macworld. com/article/1159440/soundflower_capture.html

give it a try.

flgrimes, your link is to Soundflower, so I assume the multiple "Sunflower" references in your text are in error.

Please verify that it's Soundflower, and that you're using it with Yosemite (OS 10.10.x).

According to the MacWorld article you referenced, Soundflower doesn't work with this current version of the Mac OS. In addition, a number of commenters on that article said that Soundflower crashed their Macs.

OTOH, RoaringApps.com posts (at their site /app/Soundflower) that it does indeed work with Yosemite. So, as often happens, we have different users reporting different results.

Yes, its Soundflower...never noticed the typos, ha. I've been using it with Quicktime since upgrading to Yosemite...no issues yet. The attached images show my settings. Below is a link to the video I captured several hours ago for someone using Snapz Pro and Soundflower. The only editing tool I used was the Trim functionality in Quicktime before I emailed the video.

edited to add: Hmmm not sure why it says soundflowerbed rather than soundflower. Going to have to take a look later.

NOTE: When the recording was complete, I switched the audio setting back to internal, although it wasn't required

NOTE: I selected Built-In Output so that I could hear the audio while it was being recorded. I shut down Soundflower after the recording was complete, although it wasn't required.

I too badly miss the capture mac audio feature and simply can't get it to work at all anymore. Soundflower is installed and yet ... notin'.

However, in response to a post earlier in this thread; while I was searching for a replacement I did come across a snappy little utility for image capture. It's quite powerfull and ... wait for it ... it's free! "Skitch". It's part of the Evernote system. For image capture and markup I think it's the best.

I know that doesn't help with movie capture ... I also own ScreenFlow and it's very nice, but too over-the-top for quick recording with voice-over and internal audio. I use(d) Snapz to recording software tutorials.

Well, although I would have preferred that Ambrosia get SnapZPro working as before without resorting to the kludge of other software on top of it, I decided to try some of the options discussed above. Couldn't get any results from Sound Siphon, so reluctantly (in view of the mixed results reported), I tried Soundflower. [Note that as of today, the latest version of the disk image file is 1.6.6b. Many earlier versions are floating around!]

Using the Soundflower and Soundflowerbed settings nicely illustrated by flgrimes in the above post, I was able to reproduce what SnapZPro used to do for me -- record video (and also subsections of the video window) with sound included.

flgrimes, thank you very much for the detailed information you provided.
