Slideshows in the new photos app

Hi Guys!

I have MBP 15", Early 2011, 10.10.2 Yosemite OSx and I use iPhoto as the default photo app. I have Inquiry about it with the coming update for Yosemite 10.10.3 and the replacement with photos app.

I am wondering wether there will be possibility t create slideshows just like iphoto.

Thanks

You can get iPhoto back, and Aperture (3.6) is also still working, even under El Capitan. To have a working iPhoto, you need v.9.6.1. There are several topics dealing with this issue, and how to get hold of the latest (and unfortunately, last) version of iPhoto.

You can complain to Apple and tell them what you would like to see: https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

but this is just a user forum, where more experienced users try to help less experienced fellow Mac-kers.

iPhoto was not deleted from your hard drive, only removed from the Dock. If you have iPhoto 9.6.1 you can still use your iPhoto library.

If you don't have that version but some earlier version of 9.X try following Terence Devlin's instructions in this post to obtain iPhoto 9.6.1 from the App Store:

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash.

Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

See the note at the end of this reply:

If you had some version of iPhoto 9 on your Mac at the time you upgraded to EC follow the directions posted by Tererence Devlin in this post:

NOTE: the key to this procedure is to move the existing version of iPhoto 9 to the Trash bin in the Dock (don't empty yet) before going to the App Store.
