A follow up question to Introducing Apple Recommends, Manage Subscriptions, and This Helped Me

In Introducing Apple Recommends, Manage Subscriptions, and This Helped Me it was written

Now anyone can click "This helped me" to say thanks to helpful members. When several people mark the same post, it will earn a gold star and appear at the top of the discussion, so it’s easier for others to find. The poster will also earn five reputation points for a job well done.

Does anyone know (or is it written anywhere) just how many is 'serveral'? Is it decided on the fly? Or does it depend on the phase of the moon?

Will the points be awarded to the poster only once, or if say 100 people mark it as helpful will more then 5 points be awarded?

Sounds like a really good system but it seems that a bit more thought should have gone into it, no? Or at least the explanation could be clearer.

Ciao.

(Another question) Can the original post (this one) get marked as helpful also? Imagine earning points for posting :-)

A test to see f the helpful shows up on your own post.

Seems it does. Will this count toward the 'several' needed to get the points?

I think the phrase ... All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy ... says it all.

Thanks for publicly sharing your opinion of me - good to know.

@ Chitlins:

Thanks - the term "law enforcement" would have sufficed nicely.

That'll be it for me here.

" LE " is what the younger generation - you know, the ones this forum is designed for? - calls the Police. You used the term " law enforcement " - I found that term popping into your head instead of some other kinda odd - we used to call those a "Freudian Slip".

Learn the Lingo or continue to be considered by the "installed base" the 'grumpy teacher' and we of your generation the 'hall monitor'

regarding the former... I think you flatter yourself

I've never heard anyone use the term "LE". But I don't hang around prostitutes. I've never seen anyone but you use it here. Same for AID. In both cases the usage hinders communication. My sister uses PoPo. She picked it up from the show Cops. She hasn't heard the term LE on the show. Five-0 went out of favor for a long time.

  1. I heard it first (I believe) from my close pal - Special Agent-in-Charge of the Dallas Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (RET.) - maybe HE got it from all the 'escorts' HE knew 😎 - i coulda heard it from Allan Jones as well (if you know HIS background - I don't think he keeps it 'secret')
  2. No biggie... I will be sure and not keep you in particular in mind when I use acronyms or abbreviations - OR, if you prefer, I will use proper "usage" techniques
Apple ID (AID) for first use then AID thereafter
  3. Sister is an expert linguist from COPS?
  4. Depends on your representative sample, I guess - statistics are what you choose to make of them

You will be better off starting your own thread in the relevant forum on here and providing information that might be useful in helping people to help you e.g. what are you trying to do, what happens when you do it, any error messages that you get, the device (iPad, iPhone, iPod) or computer that you are using and the operating system version on it

PS: maybe in a year or two, when I achieve the necessary status, I will create a User Tip expanding upon 's "How to write a good question" to include:

  • How to find the right place to post your Question (chosen at the bottom of the composition page just before the [Post] action button
  • How to write a Title that briefly explains the gist of the issue (NOT write the question in the title and then paste it in the body, verbatim)

Here's another one with just ONE "This helped me" and IT is MINE after the fact!

how do i remove duplicate songs on my ipod and in my library

Yes, but it was a question asked about iTunes for Mac and the document linked is in the iTunes for Windows area and some of the solution only applies to the Windows platform (the De-Duper script). 😉 😁
