Podcast app crashing in iOS 9

I just installed iOS 9 on my iPhone 6. When opening the podcast app I get a white screen, "Updating Library" and then it crashes after about 15 seconds. Anyone else experiencing this?

I've quit the app.

Restarted the phone.

Tried putting phone in airplane mode and opening the app.

Same result each time.

This is happening to me on both my iPhone 6 and iPad mini 3. On both of these devices, I am subscribed to 35 Podcasts, all sync'd with my MBP. I tried everything I can find on the internet, that includes Airplane Mode, shutting off Custom Colors... etc. I even tried removing the Podcasts app completely in Restrictions (which is a new feature, i think?). Nothing worked. I can't live a day without Podcasts, so I guess I'll have to try restoring. But some people here are saying restoring from a backup doesn't work? ***? So I'd have to set it up as a brand new device? Like I'd have to lose all my photos?

I have the same issue too. I had about 40 podcasts, so I suspect number of subscriptions is related (as previous poster suggested). I moved on to a different podcast app.

The problem, though, is the native iOS podcast app is hogging up a lot of memory storage... it's taking up 700-800 MB of Document and Data that I cannot delete (i.e., not previously saved or downloaded episodes).

I Have the same problem. iPhone six plus. I was able to open the app and subscribe to some new hd video podcasts. Now the next day it won't open at all. Back to the home screen Every time I try.

I tried deleting all the data in storage in settings, and then turning the phone off for a while, but it didn't help.

The last time I tried that, the lock screen was frozen when I turned it back on; it wouldn't input my code or do anything or respond when I tried to turn it off!!! After a couple of minutes it started responding, phew. Then it went from 35% to 15% battery in a couple of minutes. This part is really weird and may have something to do with it being plugged into an Apple iPad charger that had kind of wiggled apart and was no longer charging.

P.S. Also the podcast app on my iPad is still working even though it also got upgraded. But the lack of full screen is really terrible. What happened to using the whole screen? And it's jumping around and playing too fast or freezing. I'll put the full screen issue in the appropriate thread, too.
