Podcast app crashing in iOS 9

I just installed iOS 9 on my iPhone 6. When opening the podcast app I get a white screen, "Updating Library" and then it crashes after about 15 seconds. Anyone else experiencing this?

I've quit the app.

Restarted the phone.

Tried putting phone in airplane mode and opening the app.

Same result each time.

Help!

When you say you restored your phone, I am assuming you went back to whatever version of iOS 8.xx you were running prior to updating to iOS 9? Please feel freed to elaborate on what exactly you did to fix the problem, as I may have no choice but to follow suit as I am falling behind on business related podcasts I was following in order to best contribute to an upcoming business venture. Thanks in advance for any clarification you could provide!

I have resorted to using Stitcher app for iOS or Android to listen to some of the podcasts I am missing. But unfortunately it is yet another platform for podcast providers to have to submit their work to, and as such doesn't contain all the podcasts I was listening to prior. Hope the Stitcher app helps you at least a little bit as we wait for a fix from Apple

I Tried restore to backup . Didn't work. Tech insisted only answer total wipe and clean install ios9.....meaning hours of painful reinstall of details I don't remember making. Didn't fix Podcast issue on iPhone 5S. Took recommendation for Overdrive paid version...like it...saved current road trip. It says it can import from previous app, but I just started with my top picks from a master list I've maintained in my drop box. I can also see a similar list in my iTunes .

I've got a solution to be able to play and listen to your podcasts but doesn't fix the issue with the podcast app crashing.

If you go into iTunes and select the podcast episodes you want to listen to, you can then select Get Info from the menu. In here go to the Options tab and there you can change the drop down menu from podcast to audiobook.

Then the episode(s) will appear as audiobooks and when you select your iPhone in the iTunes menu you can then add them as audiobooks. \

Then you play them through the Books app on the phone.

Definitely doesn't fix the initial issue and there are obviously podcast apps out there you can use but in terms of a quick and dirty short term fix it's easier than doing a full reset and means you can use the apps on your phone right now.

Well, I was able to get my Podcasting app to work again, but it's not really a "fix" as much as a "hack". I downgraded my phone to iOS 8.4.1. and restored from a backup to get it to work again. I did have a hitch, however. I backed up my phone just prior to upgrading, like you are supposed to, and then backed it up after the upgrade, which was a mistake. Seems unless you've done a restore, backups are incremental so when you upgrade the next backup with overwrite your last 8.4.1 backup and make it impossible to restore onto 8.4.1 from it. I was able to use a time machine backup to copy in the last good 8.4.1 backup, but unfortunately that was from a month ago. I'll have to do some more work to recover photos and such from other backups.

I have to say I'm very displeased with the lack of help or support from Apple on this issue. Like others, when I contacted support about this, they claimed they have never heard of this issue, which I don't understand how they can still be claiming this after seeing all the folks from this thread reporting it, and then they tell you to do a full restore which, again from looking at this thread, does absolutely no help and just wastes a couple of hours of your time for no good reason.

+1, I made the mistake of installing iOS 9.0 on my iPhone 5S, and now the Podcasts app doesn't get beyond the Updating Library screen before crashing.

I do subscribe to about 120 podcasts, and up until the upgrade was the app I used more than any other. Now I'm furious and starting to regret ordering a 6S given what a nightmare the last few OS and device upgrades have been.

Going with Overcast as a stopgap. Seems adequate, if lacking in ability to sync played status with my desktop.

Really hope this bug is fixed promptly.

Last time I ever download a new version of iOS so quickly.

Will definitely wait a number of months and suggest that others do the same, will take a long time for Apple to earn back my trust after this. Highly skeptical of new releases now.

I can't believe that Apple would release something like this, big FAIL.

Like many of you I am an avid Podcast listener, daily, and have about 30 or 40 podcasts that I subscribe to.

And I've wasted hours trying to fix this, tried most of what others have tried and more, and will not reset, that would have its own set of problems.
