iPhone not recognized in iTunes 12.3

I have iTunes 12.3 installed on a laptop running Windows 10 and cannot get my iPhone 6 plus with ios 9.0 to be recognized to sync or backup. The troubleshooting indicated it may be incompatible with USB 3.0. What can I do to resolve this issue? Thank you

For what it's worth:

I recently installed Windows 10, upgraded iTunes to 12.3 and installed OS9 on my iPhone and iPad. When I couldn't see the devices on iTunes, I checked this community and read about the solutions. I ended up called Apple and spent an hour on the phone with a nice tech named John. We went through many of the steps noted here included updating the driver, etc. I had to go so I told John I would try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes later. Today I uninstalled iTunes including the Apple Application Support and the Apple Mobile Device support. I rebooted and reinstalled. Voila - the devices now connect with iTunes.

My issue was similar but different versions. I have:

iPhone 4S iOS 9.0.1 (issue after upgrading) Win 8.1 64 bit

My issue after upgrading was with iTunes. I upgraded my iPhone 4S on Sat 09/26/2015 to 9.0.1. The upgrade took hours. My iTunes was 12.1 (or 12.01?). After the upgrade completed, iTunes could not recognize my phone. It displayed: The iPhone cannot be used because it requires a newer version of iTunes. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes. I used the iTunes Help menu to check for an update, but iTunes reported no updates available. The web page was useless. It gave instructions to use the iTunes Help menu. I tried rebooting both devices and attempted the Driver update instructions described in this discussion--tried "Program Files" and "Program files (x86). Nothing worked and then I got tired and gave up.

On 09/27, a pop-up displayed indicating that iTunes 12.3 is available. The install just finished and I need to reboot. The issue should be resolved after the reboot.

My 2-cent Apple complaint: iTunes painted itself into a corner: upgraded my iPhone but then was itself a version that was too old to communicate with the upgraded iPhone and then was unable to recognize or find the latest version. Quality Control, what is that?

I had the same issue with my iPhone 4, iOS 7.1.2 (I know, it's old), after downloading and overwriting the iTunes 12.3.0.44 update to my Lenovo Windows 10 machine via the iTunes Update window.

After the update, when iTunes no longer recognized my iPhone, I called Apple Support, fully prepared to pay the $29 support fee. However, the Apple Genius graciously told me that I should have removed the earlier version of iTunes from my computer first, before installing the update (why wasn't that included in the update notice ?).

Of course, there is a very specific uninstall process for iTunes. Uninstalling the iTunes software in any other order than the following may cause problems...

1st - iTunes

2nd - Apple Software Update

3rd - Apple Mobile Device Support

4th - Bonjour

5th - Apple Application Support (both 32 bit & 64 bit)

Once I uninstalled the earlier version of iTunes, I downloaded the new version and installed it successfully.

My iPhone 4 was subsequently recognized immediately.

Problem solved !!

Thanks Macdutson! Didnt work for me the first time. iTunes still didnt recognise the iPhone. I repeated the same process. At the last step, I asked windows to search online for the driver.

Within a few seconds of updating the driver, my iPhone name showed up and everything is well. BTW, I had my iPhone connected during this process.

For quite some time the iPhone hasnt been recognised by even SynciOS which I use to upload photos and voice memos from the iPhone.

Good job!

This worked for me although I am really frustrated and this will be my last apple product - I'm finding it difficult to see the difference between Apple and products - every upgrade breaks something. The latest IOS 9.02 update has also given me big issues

Its a shame as I've tried hard to stick with Apple - love some of the products but if the experience is like Windows, why should I pay the extra money...?
