Issues with "Groups" in Contacts after iOS 9 upgrade

User uploaded file

Hello,

I am having two issues.

1. My groups in contacts are no longer in alphabetical order after upgrading to ios9. I have tried removing them via the iTunes sync and then adding them again and all it did was resort them in another random order - not alphabetical. Has anyone else had this issue? Do you have a fix?

2. Contacts used to remember which Group I had selected for viewing. Now, after ios9 upgrade, each time I go into contacts via direct or by "Phone", ALL my Groups are checked instead of the 1 group I had chosen, so ALL my contacts appear.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

I downgraded to iOS 8.4.1 due to this issue. Same on iPad, too.

Same crap happening with me. I thought I was going crazy until I found this thread. My wife and I have separate contact groups and they both get selected randomly throughout the day. First, I thought it was if you shut down the phone/contacts app and restart it, it reselects all groups but later in the day while the app was on in the background, the groups got re-selected again.

To add to the discussion, not sure if it's even possible actually, but while my wife and I use same apple ID on our phones, it seems we cannot select two separate "main contact" cards on each of our phone. Is this also an issue due to the IOS9 update?

Apple removed my comment about a pubic beta software build I posted here.

We removed your post Re: Issues with "Groups" in Contacts after iOS 9 upgrade because it contained information about beta software available only to Registered Apple Developers.

So the good news: Someone of apple seems to read this thread. The strange thing: The PUBLIC BETA is not restricted to developers but for the public. Unfortunately I am not allowed to reply to the email of the community staff.

SO APPLE: I DISAGREE WITH THAT!

Re: Issues with "Groups" in Contacts after iOS 9 upgrade

On Saturday in anticipation of purchasing a 6S I installed iOS9 on my iPhone5 & discovered that Groups in Contacts is no longer Alphabetized.

On Monday I called Apple Care. They said that engineering is aware of the problem & is working on it.

I have 1,843 Contacts that I use for work. I have nearly 200 Groups. I need Groups to be searchable in order to have functionality in Contacts. In iOS9 Groups are randomly displayed. It’s strictly hunt & peck. Frustrating to the point of being unusable.

Today, Tuesday, I went to the Apple Store to see if they might have a 6S with iOS8.4 on it. They do not.

I talked to Tech Support to see if I could uninstall iOS9 from my 5 & reinstall iOS8.4. The answer is no.

You can't go back and reinstall an older OS on an existing phone.

Tech spent tons of time trying to find a solution to no avail.

Installed 2 second party contact managing apps that also had Groups non-alphabetized. I asked if that could be due to iOS9 and she didn't know.

I said that they should trade me out for an iPhone 5 with 8.4 on it. They said there's no way to know what phone they have in the store has what OS on it, that they'd have to go through & open all of the boxes.

I said - try opening one box, the one you've had in the store the longest.

The gal came back & said that they have one phone in the store that matches mine but that they would not give it to me. They said that since it wasn't a hardware issue & that there was only one in the store that they couldn't release the phone. They had to save it for someone that does have a hardware issue.

I asked that they find a store that does have more than one phone.

They said that they are not authorized to do so.

They said that there is internal literature about it and that engineering is working on a fix. Their policy is that since it's a software issue not hardware and that it is now a known issue that is being worked on they can't/won't do anything further to help.

Have to wait until a fix is released.

I mentioned that the OS had been out for a month, that they should have known about it for a month, why is it just now getting attention? They danced around it. My guess is that it's low priority for them.

I suggested that the same way Apple contacts people telling them to install the new OS they should be contacting people & telling them that they will no longer have a fully functioning phone if they install OS9

No answer for that.

So at the end of the day I have to re-do all of my settings which were lost trying to solve the problem & I still have the problem.

I thanked them & told them that I am incredibly disappointed with Apple.

They gave me a card for a free phone case when I buy the 6S

All in all, unsatisfying & time consuming.

Onward & upward.

I'm with you on this.
When a car manufacturer releases a product that doesn't work they have to recall it. Bring the car in to the dealer, fix it or replace it.

The least Apple could do is tell all the people waiting line to buy iPhones that the OS doesn't work properly. Give folks the opportunity to wait until the OS is fixed before shelling out $750.00.

They should warn people that haven't upgraded out of 8.4 about what will happen when they "upgrade" to iOS9.

Maybe we all need to be calling Apple Tech Support instead of just typing on a support community site.

The vey nice, very helpful (to a point) people that helped me at the Apple Store today were completely obvious to this problem. And just like the woman I talked to at Apple Care their bottom line was they don't use "Groups" so it's not on their radar.

Start calling. Put it on their radar.
Apple needs some motivation.

My commit you responded to was deleted, I guess it was too direct. LOL

you're spot on with the car analogy, we ALL should have the opportunity

to down grade when we run into iOS issues that are detrimental to what

we are needing the device to do. Either fix the issues promptly, don't release it

until it's ready, OR give us the ability to downgrade our devices.

Your car analogy was spot on !

My view is that any IT companies will go through the same cycle simply because once they grow as big as Apple, will attract some "highly" qualified people to join the company, which inevitably will change company's culture. These "highly" qualified people generally have very impressive qualifications and can talk very well. But these qualities in general do not lead to better products and qualities.
