I Am also having the same problem. When I search for a email from a contact i get a blank search. The name of the contact will show up or automatically fill in the search box but when I hit the search button I get zero results. There is a blue line at just under the search bar that seems to suggest my phone is working on finding the contact but after 5min of waiting I still have zero responses and the thin blue line hasn't moved.

VEry very frustrating. I am using an iPhone 5

IVe somewhat figured this out. It's a 2 step process now as they've changed it up a bit. After you type your search term, click just under the search bar where is says 'Search for ...'. This is just above where is starts returning contact results and subject results. Its like clicking on the first search result.

I don't like it because i liked getting real time results as I was typing my search term.

The one thing that is better is that you can now go back and add a different search term and narrow down your results without losing that first search term. Not sure that's worth it though to lose real time results.

Hope pet hat helps. It's been driving me crazy since I updated.

Sorry to hear it's not working for you. It's possible you have a more significant issue.

Are you having any success on searches from the new search window? Swipe to the left from the new home screen and try your search from there. That works the way search used to work. My problem is, my workflow is from inside email. I don't want to have to keep bouncing out of email to go to the new, fancy search option.

What happens for me is pretty instantaneous when doing the procedure described above. I enter my search term, touch the searching for and then I instantly get my results. I also have the little blue line that slowly moves across but it rarely returns any additional results.

For reference, I'm using an iPhone 6.

I did look around some more and there is another thread with this same problem with a screen shot. I'll link it here.

ipad IOS 9 SEARCH Email issue

That's the same process I'm describing though always better with pictures.

I do not have this problem on my iPhone 6, however I do have this problem on my iPad Air. The suggestion made of doing a search from the home screen does not work for me. That only brings up a few emails. I need to be able to search for people directly within Mail. Even though that does work it takes very long time to complete (one minute or more). That is very unsatisfactory. I had hoped this problem would be solved when upgraded to IOS 9.01, but it didn't .

IOS 9.0.1:

I'm having the same problem with keyword searches. Before the IOS 9 update, a simple swipe-down at the home screen would allow me to type a key word like "doctor" and if I'd entered the same for any doctors in my contacts it would list them all whether it was on my Iphone or any other other contacts with other apps. This was very convenient if you could not remember the name of the person you were trying to contact, but instead had some other common field to categorize them in.

Another separate issue I've encountered is that when I go into the calendar, sometimes I can't select a day within which I'd like to create a reminder. It's an intermittent problem so not that big a deal, but these issues are not very Apple-esque!

Thanks for the suggestions.

I did try the spotlight/search window approach. It works for finding email 'from' a person, or with the search word in the 'subject.' It will not find messages with the search word in the text of the email. And then, like you, there are many times when I need to do my work from within email.

My experience with searching within email is apparently very different from yours - and from the suggested path in the other thread your reference. If I start to type a term, it returns in almost real time a list of senders that match what I've typed, shortening the list as I continue typing. However, even if I click on a suggested name/sender, the search freezes with that bit of a blue (process) line. If I type a word known to be in a subject line, and then click on the 'Search for "keyword"' line, the search freezes.

So, there's something rather serious going on here. And it's obviously not just me. I despair of ever again being able to search for a word embedded in email text - as most well-behaved email apps allow. Guess I'll have to start using one of them.
