My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire. I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

Just had the same problem on 6s 64gb. Phone was working fine all day. Went to use the phone and it wouldn't power up, just a dark screen, and a very hot home button. I called Apple Support. They ran remote diagnostics and found nothing wrong. At their suggestion I held down the power button and the home button and the phone powered back on normally after about 10 seconds. I thought it might be an overheat due to the new case, but in researching overheat situations I saw that a triangular symbol should have popped up as a warning. The phone itself didn't feel hot, just the home button.

I Was given a refurbished iphone 6s phone because I was having other issues with my new iPhone 6s a week after getting it March this year(2016). They finally replaced it, not with another new one but a refurbished one which I was pretty annoyed about due to the fact I am getting someone else's reject phone. Anyway, I was happy as I was not having the issues I had with my old iPhone 6s, that was until last night. Plugged my phone in to charge as usual, was at 47%. Grabbed the phone while it's still charging to use it, something I do all the time, but the screen was blank. What the? I then plugged in my iPhone 5 I still have to see if it was the charger playing up. Nope, that was working. Then I touched the home button again on the iPhone 6s and thought, that's hot and it continued to get hotter. By now, what was going through my head was what I saw on tv two nights before about iPhone batteries exploding and causing fires just by being in someone's pocket. I then googled iphone 6 home button hot. Looks like I am not the only one with this issue but thankfully someone found out what to do to get the phone working again but I am not willing to put up with a phone that to me is dangerous. My finger is still sore from the home button being hot.

I have just spoken with someone at Apple Care and it is going to be organised that I get a new phone, not another refurbished one as I refuse to accept another refurbished one.

So anyone that this happens to, don't just reboot it and accept that's just what you need to do. It could cause a fire if it gets hot enough to ignite something that is flammable sitting next to your phone or if you have it sitting facedown on paper or something.

Has anyone else been able to get their phones replaced from Apple without a problem? I have the Iphone 6S Plus.

As long as the phone has not been dropped or exposed to liquid, there should be no problem. However, only Apple can tell you what Apple will do. But you should absolutely take the phone to Apple while you are still under warranty.

Hi

There is an iPhone 6s Program for Unexpected Shutdown Issues.

The program covers iPhone 6s devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between September and October 2015.

Apple advises that, if you have experienced the issue, you should visit an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorised Service Provider to have your iPhone examined and the serial number checked to confirm your eligibility for a battery replacement, free of charge.

Has this been addressed? Heat being put off on these things can't be good for lithium batteries. I don't see a solution just work around son here. My device is hot!

We would have no idea if a hardware problem with your device has been addressed. Did you make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store? Did you contact Customer Support? Frustrating though a hardware problem on your device may be, it doesn't mean that it's something that affects lots of people. Waiting around, hoping that Apple will "address" the issue is not especially productive.
