My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire. I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

My 6s 16GB with Samsung battery and iOS 9.0.2 froze with black screen and hot home button 9 days after purchase and setup as a new phone. I had just made a call, put the phone to sleep and put it in my back pocket. After maybe 30 minutes with no callback, I checked the phone and found it dead. I tried hey Siri but she didn't work either. Did a reset and it came back on (there was a missed call that did not ring). It's been fine for 2 days, but I keep checking it...very disappointing! Does anyone think Siri may be involved, since holding down the button summons her?

Yes, I did have this question.

This is my first time to plug my new iPhone 6S into charge, home button was burning hot and the screen is black as well, the device can't be turn on. I have to stop charging and wait for 4 hours. Then, home key was turning cool and I try to plug into charge again. My new iPhone 6S is coming back.

I'm afraid this is defective device, can't believe it happened on whole new iPhone 6S though my phone is able to work now.

Just had this issue happen on my 6s 64gb. Apparently caught it pretty fast as button was warm and getting warmer but not yet too hot to touch. Was able to hard reset (reset/home) and get it back. Will take it to an Apple store when/if it reoccurs so they can see it happening. Doesn't look like it matters but I did upgrade to 9.0.2 about four days ago.

A co-worker also had this issue a couple of weeks ago and since mine was not doing it we thought maybe it was a first run hardware issue. Mine is from ATT a couple of weeks later and with the growing number we are now thinking it is a firmware/software issue. Just need Apple to acknowledge, diagnose and fix it.

And chalk another one up. 6s pre-ordered, received on launch day - 64gig on Verizon, Samsung processor. No problems up until now. Just had it sitting on my desk. Screen was blank, and I hit the button to unlock and nothing happened. Tried to power it on and no response, and felt that the button was warm. Showed it to my boss who tried it, but didn't think it was warm. He did a hard reset and it came up. I did some searching online and found this thread. Kind of a bummer.

My apologies if this has already been mentioned. I didn't read all of the posts.

Some protective cases can have an insulating effect on your iPhone and lock in heat.

In my opinion, it is not a good idea to habitually leave your phone plugged in overnight to charge. If this is done with a case that locks the heat it, it will cause your phone to overheat.

Prolonged heat exposure will damage the lithium ion battery in your phone and shorten its life span and ability to retain a charge.

Lithium batteries (in smartphones and laptops, for example) function optimally with frequent small/partial discharges and charges rather than being completely discharged then completely charged.

Same thing just happened to my phone- 6s 64g not the Samsung processor so that seems to rule out that theory. Phone was not plugged in, just on bedstand overnight. About 85% battery so it didn't seem to drain it. But did have to sign in to everything again (is that because of the soft reset?) Case is simple one which is identical to the one I used on my 5s with never an issue. Running 9.0.2.

Most consistent thing I can see running through this thread is that is seems to happen most often when owner of phone is asleep so folks- perhaps this will be the fix. Do Not Sleep. (yes- just a little lightening joke).

Bit disconcerting since I am taking it overseas for a month leaving in a week and it is my contact and my camera and my alarm and my guidebook etc etc. Guess the iPad does come along.

Also interesting to note, my watch seemed to still be connected the entire time my phone was "dead", which was for at least 30 minutes. I tried making a call from my watch though and it failed. So I feel like the phone was still on but stuck in some overheating/screen blackout nightmare. Anyone been successful in getting their phone replaced?

Just spoke with Apple- this is a software issue which will be fixed with update coming in next week or so. They assured me that the phone is not damaged and will not heat to the point of causing a fire. Soft reset seems to work fine for me- hold home button and on/off button down until the Apple logo comes on. Getting phone replaced probably won't do anything since this is a problem that potentially could be evident in all 6s and 6sPlus phones.

same happened to me just this morning. I was using my phone, wasn't charging, then put the phone next to my bed then went for a shower. Got dressed and went back to the phone and phone's screen was dark and home button wasn't responsive.

I thought the battery was drained so I pluggged it into the charger.

A few minutes later, I went back to check the phone again and the home button piece was burning hot....

looked up google and found this thread and followed what some of you guys did to hard boot the phone (lock + home button hold for 10 seconds) . I had to use a pen to hold down the home button cos the touch id ring was just so hot...
