My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire. I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

I Got my 6s 64G yesterday from Verizon. Setup was fine, no problem all day. plugged in my phone to charge last night after setting my alarm. Hubby got up early, went to turn off my alarm....black screen. Figured I hadn't plugged it in all the way and it died. Plugged it in to my MacBook; nothing. tried the power/home reboot (as a long time iPhone user, that usually works). Noticed the home button was really hot but the phone came on, charged 100%.

Also interesting to note, my watch seemed to still be connected the entire time my phone was "dead", which was for at least 30 minutes. I tried making a call from my watch though and it failed. So I feel like the phone was still on but stuck in some overheating/screen blackout nightmare. Anyone been successful in getting their phone replaced?

My theory is that the phone is actually STILL ON, but the screen is off or blacked out or shut down from a temperature rise.. when I had this problem (before upgrading to 91.b4+ of course) the phone seemed to still be connected to the watch and the bluetooth home phone system.

Hi all, the issue would still come up for me even during the day while it was not charging and it didn't just happen once.

I did take my iPhone 6s Plus to the Apple Store. I told them about my issue and like some other people who have contacted Apple, he hasn't heard of that particular issue. I told him that there was a thread on the discussion forum but he kinda brushed it off and continued fiddling with my iPhone. Anyway, he did do a button test with this pen tool where he would press down on it and there was a real issue with my home button but he said that he's not sure if it was related to the hot button issue.

Anyway, long story short, I was able to get a replacement iPhone but I had to wait because they did not have my phone in stock at the store. I do have AppleCare Plus (I usually get it).

I did not restore my data and set up the phone as new and I have not had any issues since.

I am curious to see if the 9.1 that was just released today made any difference to those who are still experiencing the hot button on their iPhone.

My iPhone 6s shut down while sitting on my desk unplugged and 90+% charged. The home button was hot to the touch. I tried to power on and reset with home/power buttons multiple times over a 1-1/2 hour period but could not get it to power up. Spent an hour trying to establish contact and then talking with Apple Senior Advisor Support rep (my call was escalated due to "safety" issue because of "hot button"), only to be told Apple had no record of having this problem reported before! (I "went on record" to say that the Apple discussion forum clearly indicated this is a problem and got dissed by the rep about you can't believe what you read on the web!). All the Senior Advisor Support rep did for me was to refer me to take my phone to the local independent Apple dealer. When I got in the car, the A/C was running full blast so I held the phone up to the air vent, and it cooled off enough so that when I went in the store it powered right up with the home/power reset. I think this is definitely an overheating problem causing the phone to shut down. The best thing we can do is contact Apple every time it happens so they are forced to recognize the problem, and give the phone a little cool air....

Same issue happened to me this morning. Got my 6S Plus from the store on the day it became available and this is the first issue I have had. I went to bed last night with the battery level around 50% and just set it on my nightstand and didn't plug it in. Woke up this morning and screen wouldn't turn on. I plugged it in for over an hour and still no luck. When my wife eventually looked at it, she informed me that the home button was super hot and it was. I found this support article and the same trick worked for turning it back on. i set up an apple appointment at the store about an hour away before I was able to get my phone back on. Now that's it's working again, I'm torn as to whether I should actually make the trip to get it looked at now. By the way, my phone is a 64GB 6S Plus 64GB and is running the latest 9.1 public beta. I also checked with the Battery Memory System Status Monitor app and my device has the chip made by TSMC, not Samsung. So it appears as though this issue happens to both the phones with Samsung and TSMC chips.

Just updated yesterday around noon. Haven't had the problem yet.... Although I don't put much faith in that because I had had my phone since release date, and didn't have a problem for almost a month until the other day. Time will tell. And hopefully people will report back if they continue to have an issue. That's how we'll really know if fixed or not..

This happened to me as well yesterday before the 9.1 update. I'm assuming everyone is using Touch ID to unlock their phones? Or is it happening when it is disabled as well? I just got my phone 3 days ago and I'm well within my return window. For those that have 9.1, has the issue happened since the upgrade? I spoke to Apple today and they had never heard of the issue. I forwarded them the link to this discussion board. The problem sounds to be iOS related but how can this go unnoticed by Apple? I have a few friends that got their 6s phones on launch. They haven't had the problem and they have Touch ID enabled. I see a lot of posts on here, but what's the resolution? Is it worth it to exchange my phone for a new one? Could this really be a hardware issue and Apple is in denial considering the massive amount of phones they might have to replace? I'm not sure if I should exchange my phone or if that is a waste of my time. So far today, I've had no issues. How many of you experienced this only once vs. many times? I've see a couple of YouTube videos of the people with this issue but no follow up was provided as to whether they settled on a reset or got a new phone. Same thing on Twitter...people complaining but added no follow up.

I'm still not convinced it's entirely a software issue, but that they have been able to engineer their code around a possible hardware problem. I was having the issue 5-10 times/day. Then I went to the apple store and got a replacement a week ago, restored from backup, and haven't had the problem since. Both the bad and good phone were restored from the same backup, so therefore should have essentially been identical in terms of software. Perhaps it's a faulty or out-of-spec touchID sensor that they've "fixed" by making tweaks to the clock speed, voltage, etc, who knows. But based on a good experience so far with my new device, I'd recommend requesting a replacement. Who knows whether a hardware problem intensifies once out of warranty (mine got worse with time). I've actually held off on 9.1 to see if it still happens later.

There's no way apple is unaware of the issue. Either they are in denial, acting like it never happened with a silent fix (not mentioned in 9.1 release notes), or their issue reporting is very unorganized. I'd put money on denial/silent fix. I've noticed from my conversations with them and others' reports on here, that to get their attention it's best to stress that the home button gets very hot. Apparently they don't care unless it's a perceived safety issue that could get them sued.

My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on
