My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire. I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

Just had the same problem on 6s 64gb. Phone was working fine all day. Went to use the phone and it wouldn't power up, just a dark screen, and a very hot home button. I called Apple Support. They ran remote diagnostics and found nothing wrong. At their suggestion I held down the power button and the home button and the phone powered back on normally after about 10 seconds. I thought it might be an overheat due to the new case, but in researching overheat situations I saw that a triangular symbol should have popped up as a warning. The phone itself didn't feel hot, just the home button.

It's happened the same to my 6s, home button overheating and can't turn on. Last night my battery was only 13% ,then I charged my ph the whole night with airplane mode. I started know the error during morning & did know nth to do.To fix it, my boyfriend gave me this link and I found the way that former ones said.So I tried pressing home key & power button at the same time. Within 6 seconds it turns on & I get it back. Thz for ur suggestions & comments with my heart. Frankly, I got very frustrated by this system error of 6s. 😕

I had the same problem today. I had my phone plugged into one of these power cases (JLW-6GB). This had worked fine for several days, but today, the screen went black and the home button was totally hot. I'm traveling but fortunately I had WIFI at the airport and was able to get online with my MacBook where I found this post. It saved me lots of additional frustration. I did the home button-power button reset - it took about 15 second. In the 10 minutes that this issue had been going on, the battery went from 100% to 49%.

Hope this won't happen again...

I got the exact same problem. My 6s plus 64G got black screen and found my home button burning hot.

Just pressed home button + power button to reset. Luckily, I can bring my phone on.

No idea what the problem is. Should I send my phone to apple to check? T

Over 17 pages reports this problem but Apple doesn't care about it?

No reply from Apple ?

Same exact thing happened to my I phone 6 S... Screen went black and power button very hot to touch...followed instructions that I got from this site and held the power button down at the same time as the home button..this took about 10 to 15 seconds of holding to get the phone to power back on..My phone is 6 months old....so glad this site told me what to do. As expensive as these phones are they should not have these problems

I had the same thing happen today but my phone overheated. I had it in my car with the sun roof down in the direct sun light while driving and realized when I got back to the office that it overheated so it shut down. I let it cool down for a while and went to try to start it up and noticed that the home button was hot while the rest of the phone was cool. I held down the home and power buttons and it started back up and no more problems.

Also happened to me too, today. iPhone 6s 16GB just turned off by itself, with a black screen and totally unresponsive to hitting home button/power button/plugging in to charger/connecting to MacBook Pro with cable. When I touched the home button, it was scorching hot and I was almost unable to touch it. I initially thought it was my imagination, but after Googling the issue, it seems like this is a real problem that Apple will have to fix. The fix, like others have posted here, was to do a phone reset by holding down the power button and home button together for 10 seconds. I will go to my Apple Store tomorrow to report this. Wonder how Apple will address this.

I'm having the same problem with my iPhone 6s home button hot to the touch and shutting off. I tried rebooting by holding down home button and sleep button for 10 seconds but to no avail. I put the phone in the freezer for a minutes then tried rebooting again... it powered on. Unfortunately I went through this process twice now. Can't wait for Apple to fix this problem as I like my 6s.

Hi,

same issue here. Had it face up. Just wanted to unlock when I noticed the "hot" home button.

Thankfully I just had my macbook at hand. Just found this post a minute ago. Hard reset did the trick. The home button instantly went cooler.

I updated my IPhone 6S (128GB) to 9.0.2 last weekend. However I am not sure that this is triggering the issue.

Did anyone get this issue without having touch id set up?

Hopefully it's just a software bug.

Best regards,

My iPhone 6s had 40% battery life left, had not been using it for about 1 hour (and it was not plugged in), and all of a sudden I have a black screen, phone won't turn on, and home button is extremely hot as if it's on fire. Nothing I did could get the phone to turn on, and no response to "hey, Siri" either.I DO have the TMC processor chip so this does not seem to be a Samsung chip issue. I have been running on OS 9.0.2 for two weeks so that should not be related to the issue, either.

AppleCare helped me do a hard reset and it is fine now.
