My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire. I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

Just had the same problem on 6s 64gb. Phone was working fine all day. Went to use the phone and it wouldn't power up, just a dark screen, and a very hot home button. I called Apple Support. They ran remote diagnostics and found nothing wrong. At their suggestion I held down the power button and the home button and the phone powered back on normally after about 10 seconds. I thought it might be an overheat due to the new case, but in researching overheat situations I saw that a triangular symbol should have popped up as a warning. The phone itself didn't feel hot, just the home button.

An article was posted on C-NET about this issue (http://www.cnet.com/news/some-iphone-6s-owners-say-their-phones-randomly-power-d own/)

As stated by many here, a Hard Reset fixed the issue . At the end of the article:

"Some speculate the issue may be related to the A9 processor inside the iPhone 6S, which had two manufacturers --

TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) and Samsung."

Take this for what its worth, however an article elsewhere did teardown and did find actual

differences in the die size provided by the two manufacturers.

Personally have not seen this but just got the 6S on Tuesday and updated to 9.01 and

9.02 pretty much back to back (9.01 when I got the phone home).

I Also have had the same problem with overheating. I left mine plugged in to charge overnight and the next morning the lower portion of the phone was extremely hot. Once it cooled, I had a black screen. A soft reset at the Verizon store turned it back on. They said that I was the first that they had heard of overheating. I asked for a new phone and they said since they could not reproduce the problem that I was out of luck. Next upgraded to 9.0.2 in hopes that it was a software issue. Next problem after updating was that the phone would not stop dinging when it was fully charged and plugged in. Went back to Verizon but the phone would no longer charge to 100%. They called support and did some kind of diagnostic test that showed a problem with my phone and that it could probably be fixed by going to an Apple Store. I asked for a new phone sincI was still within the 14 day window of purchase and have not had a problem since. Apple needs to address these issues.

my phone did the same to me friday morning and I was late for work. I kept it with me all day to see what happened. The home button was red hot all day until eventually after work I pressed the side switch and it displayed the empty battery and charger cable on screen. It cooled down so I plugged it in and minutes later it was back on as normal. So what ever happened it drained my battery and left me without a phone. Rather annoyed will be asking for a replacement if it keeps happening.

I called Verizon last night and reported this issue. They suggested having a replacement issued through Apple because it would be faster. I then called Apple and explained what had happened to my phone. I had it only two days when I had the overheating home button problem. Apple claims to be unaware of the problem but I shared this forum with their safety department and they seemed truly alarmed. The Specialist I spoke to immediately issued me a new replacement phone. No questions asked. It could have been one time fluke, or this could be the start of a major issue. I'm not taking chances and I shouldn't have to on a high price phone that's 2 days old. Better safe than sorry. Just my two cents. Thank you cchandl for your advice. 🙂

i have had the same problem. Had kept my phone on the table the night before and when i woke up the next morning it was switched off. The only way it turned on was by holding the power and home button for 10 seconds. I also experienced having a hot home button. I just got my hands on the new 6s a week back. What should I do? Do i take it back where I got it from and ask them to replace it for me.

Same thing. iPhone 6s got hot while the app on screen did not go into standby. Battery went from 80% to 40% in about 5 mins. Then first the phone lost it's fingerprints that I had fed into it. When I tried to open the id-touch setting to set it up, the phone crashed. A black screen was all I had.

After a forced restart it worked for a while to loose the fingerprints again and crash again and black screen again and forced restart again en all happened over and over again. For 2 or 3 times. Then the id touch could not be set up anymore.

Tried to ask Apple care. They never heard of it..... I was advised to re-install iOS, which i had be doing twice by then. But o.k. for the love of your iPhone you are willing to do a lot. So by now I did that around 3 times. Complete restores. But the phone did (not yet) get hot anymore and id touch can't be set up. And when I try it states:

FAILURE! PLEASE TRY AGAIN!

Hahahahahahhahahah no thank you I will bring the phone back for repair or something else. It is brand new!

I have a 6 64GB and I've had it for almost 2 years. It's running the latest iOS and this has happened three times now. But it's not just my home button that gets hot, it's the entire phone! It gets super hot too, not just a little hot! I don't think this is a new problem related solely to the 6's. My previous phone was a 5 and it got so hot the battery warped and I had to replace it. The first time my 6 overheated I was surfing Facebook, the next I was listening to Spotify and the most recent I was using Waze. Hard reboots have worked every time so far. You would think after 19 pages of posts regarding this issue Apple would address this before it becomes a safety hazard!!! 😠
