Can't login to iMessage and FaceTime
MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4), from early 2015
how to reset keychain ? I have to delete them ?
Reseting keychain didn't work for me.
I was on the phone for about two hours yesterday with Apple Support got escalated all the way to engineering. Was told they would get back to me once engineering had something.
I just spoke to senior support here in Canada. Not sure what's going on but he had no clue of this issue. I don't know how when lower level tech support yesterday told me they were aware. He escalated it. I am really disappointed with Apple. They went through something like 7 iterations of this OS version and then released it with this major glitch. On top of that their website indicates all of their services are functioning well.
Reseting keychain also didn't work for me.
Same problems here... After clean install of 10.11.4 cannot connect iMessage, FaceTime. Can't use Access To My Mac also (iCloud server don't respond). Reset keychain don't help... I lost ALL MAY PASSWORDS for web!!!
Mail, Contacts, Game Center and other things ok. iOS devices also ok (iMessage and FaceTime works too). The problem is only for El Capitan.
I downgraded to Yosemite and the issue is there too, then I go back to El capitan and the problem persist, is not software related.
Yesterday I bought a new 15-inch macbook pro from the Apple store. Out of the box, 10.11.1, computer would not sign in to my iCloud account with my Apple ID. So I skipped this part of the initial setup. Managed to sign in to iCloud in system preferences, and managed to see my Notes, Reminders, Safari bookmarks. But I have the same problem: I cannot sign in to Messages or FaceTime.
Today, after a couple of hours talking to Apple on the phone last night, I returned to the store to see if there was a fix, or whether the problem was specific to that machine. For an unrelated reason, I wanted to switch models: from the 15-inch to the 13-inch.
So I got a new 13-inch macbook pro this morning and decided to set it up in store. Same issue. I had a lengthy chat with one of the Apple Geniuses who could not figure this out. He did his best, but he could only give vague answers to my questions. He said it seems like an Apple server issue that "engineering" is aware of and are hoping to fix. So I asked whether this is happening to all new computers and to all customers. He said not all, but wouldn't say how common this is.
So that raises the question: why _my_ (and yours, if you're reading this) apple ID? I have tried signing out of all my other devices, and have gone through the iCloud settings to see if there is anything amiss with my account. I'm pretty sure I've tried everything, and my Apple Genius said that he is pretty confident that the fault is not with my account but with the servers, as I mentioned.
Also, I'll add the following. When talking to the Apple helper (was he a genius too?) on the phone last night he seemed to think that there was something in general wrong with my Wifi. In fact, that was his conclusion: there's something wrong with the Wifi adapter and you should go switch it out at an Apple store.
This was related to the fact that we ran a speed test and the results seemed very inconsistent. In addition, his screen-sharing software cut out quite a few times as we were talking.
Now, when it comes to logging in to Messages, it seems to me (and to the Apple man) that the computer isn't even trying to log in. Ok, once you're into the application, if you try to log in in the Preferences menu, you do see the spinning ... thing. But if you try to log in from the initial splash screen (quit the app and reopen), you don't see much action at all. At least that is what's happening on my computer at the moment, and on yesterday's too. Is this a common experience.
This is what led the advisor yesterday to conclude that there's an issue with a connection somewhere, as though there's a firewall (and, of course, we checked to see if it was on; we also went through all the network settings and set up a new network).
So, I'm not going to guess why these things are happening, but I just wanted to add this idea that Messages isn't even trying to log in. This makes me wonder about the idea that there's a problem with the Apple servers, but I don't want to speculate ...
Same issue with a clean install
I don't think its a firewall issue, as I connected directly into my Cable Modem (and disabled any firewall on the modem and my Mac Mini) to see if I could get past this error with no success. In addition, I have performed the following:
The only left is either wait for Apple to fix it or install Yosemite from scratch.
Agreed it's not the firewall. My point is just that there are some connection issues that make the computer behave as thought there was one.
Today's genius suggested that the problem might be related to encrypted data--this being what links Messages, FaceTime, and Keychain, which I can turn on and use.
Anyway, it's right that the only fix right now is to go back to a non-El Capitan version of the OS.
The really disappointing thing is that they're selling machines that don't work out of the box. This feature is just so basic: I think the computer hangs on the third screen that you see after turning your shiny new computer on. Giving Apple the benefit of the doubt, I would be really surprised if they released this and the issue was universal. There must be something about the accounts that aren't connecting--something arbitrary, no doubt--that locks them out. It would be interesting to hear from people who have made recent purchases who have had a more successful set up, but I suppose they are too busy enjoying their computers today and messaging their friends.
I have this problem as well. Just erased HD and re-installed twice, and still can't sign in to iMessage and FaceTime. Other iCloud features seem to work fine. MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)
Can confirm it's not a network issue. My another Mac (10.11.3) and iPhone (9.3) can sign out and sign back in to iMessage
Downgrade to a previous version of OS X wont work either, I tried that and the issue is the same in Yosemite, in my case if I check the "console" log the bug seems to be related to "certificate not yet generated".
I have also tried Clean Installing (Wipe drive via disk utility each time and don't restore any backups) Mavericks 10.9.5 and Yosemite; both of those are giving me the same errors and console shows similar info: apsd "certificate not yet generated"... no ids service for sms relay.
