MacBook Pro 2016 15" butterfly keyboard problem

Hi

On my new MacBook Pro 2016 15", all keys (butterfly) works perfectly - except the enter key. Even though it does work, It doesn't "click" and you can't feel your are pressing it down - it feels like pressing the metal next to it.

It worked fine the first week.

Anybody experiencing this problem?

Thanks

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.1)

Guys, after reading around, I've solved this.

There's so much less space around and under the new keyboard, that dust and little dirt effects the keyboard much quicker. I simply blew fiercely around and under the stuck key, and it promptly worked again.

I have the same problem! Mine is with the "i"key though. It just doesn't make the click sound when I press on it, and I have to press extra firmly on it for it to type. I don't have a spray can for air to blow out the dust, and I already tried blowing underneath the key. It didn't work. Is there any other method that I can use to make the "i" key free? ANd how on earth did so much dust get caught underneath only one keyboard key?

I hope Apple is noting the number of complaints about this keyboard design. I think they should make clear in their specifications that it is significantly different from previous models!

The Edinburgh Genius bar failed to fix my keyboard on my second visit, despite saying they would and keeping my computer for a week; but when I threatened to return it for a full refund, they finally agreed to replace the keyboard, necessitating a third visit 48 hours later. Apparently, they have to replace the entire 'top' of the computer plus battery. I read somewhere that Apple redesigned the keyboard in 2017, but the store was unable to confirm this. Anyway, the replacement did fix the problem of stuck keys and double keystrokes and I can now type normally. You just have to be persistent!

I also do not believe the stories that the problem is caused by 'dust'. My first keyboard was a problem as soon as it came out of the box, brand new, and I have done nothing to make it dirty. On the other hand I have had several MacBooks Air before, typically for 4-5 years each with nothing but superficial cleaning, and never experienced such keyboard problems.

I just got my keyboard replaced (top chassis including battery) because of stuck keys.

Now, 3 days later, I have already had 4 keys stuck! One was stuck for an hour maybe and then magically came loose again.

I don't know what to do.. if I return it again and they do it all over, it will probably not fix it.

Maybe I need to do it again and again and return the computer and buy an old one?

How is it possible that they don't have a new hardware design so that if you get it replaced, it's really fixed?!

I had my Macbook Pro 2016 keyboard replaced, and it now works OK. However, I still don't like it, and it is too noisy to use in a quiet work environment such as a library. I have therefore bought a second-hand 2014 Macbook Air and a 2011 iMac, both from eBay. Together they cost less than I will get by selling my Macbook Pro 2016 on eBay. The iMac has a 1Tb fusion drive with all my files on it, and it does the backups. I sync the Macbook Air using iCloud. The 2014 Air is a much nicer machine to use and I feel more comfortable carrying a relatively cheap laptop around with me, in case it is stolen or damaged. Though it has only a 128Gb SSD, I can still access all my information from iCloud, thanks to the new storage optimisation features in High Sierra.

Agree. More people should know. I finally had the time to do something about the problem that was growing worse. I was wasting time w my space key (I had already adjusted to only being able to shift w the right shift key & the repeating #3 had subsided somewhat or perhaps I adapted) but now I couldn't do any typing. I could have sent them my broken computer then they would have sent me another computer but I wasn't giving up my computer even w applecare. So more people should know about this. They have made their problem ours & we're the one's spending time and money at our expense.

Same issue here with the cursor down key on a Late 2016 13“ MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. From the day I got the machine, I noticed that this key was a tiny bit lower than all the other keys. But it worked fine initially, so I didn’t bother.

Over time, I had to press harder for the key to register and the key also developed a strange „wobbly“ feeling compared to the others. I guess something underneath the key cap probably broke.

So last week I took my MBP in to an Apple Store and it‘s been in repair since. Glad I have AppleCare. Today they called to notify me that the repair was „a little more complex“ - which can mean anything - and would take longer than expected...

I‘m hoping they have a spare part that addresses these issues for the 2016 models. Otherwise I’ll probably press for a replacement machine when it happens again (or takes too long to repair).

I popped the bad keys off and placed a key protector ($7 on amazon) on keyboard & can clumsily type but didn't bother w AppleCare or warranty because it will continue to happen. I ordered keyboard from China but also buying inexpensive laptop that's not apple since I can still use apple features on my macbook pro --- I just can't type easily.

Too bad Apple is careless w out time & money.
