iPhone 6 screen freezes after iOS 10.3.1 update

It's the first time it happens to me, after updating to the latest IOS the phone started working wrong, the screen freezes, it turns off alone and it opens apps and chats without touching the screen. I think it's a problem of the update as many iphone 6 an iphone 6 plus are having the same issue. I tried almost everything but it didn't worked.

I'll be very grateful if you can solve it.

Hi there!

Had the same problem, getting worse from day to day, but it looks like an issue with TouchID and/or Passcode!

I use TouchID to unlock the iPhone and the Passcode (4 Digits).

Yesterday i disabled both: Settings ==> TouchID & Passcode ==> entering 4 Digits ==> iPhone Unlock slider to off ==> Turn Passcode Off

Now almost every tap on the screen resulted in screen freeze (a real nightmare!), but i was able to go to Settings ==> TouchID & Passcode again and turned the Passcode on. Now i had to enter 6 Digits(!!) for a new passcode.

I deleted the finger prints, made new ones, and turned TouchID to on again.

Since then not a single freeze!

Just upgraded 5s to 10.3.2. Absolutely *****!! Screen freezes, apps open automatically even when you don't activate them., search apps open up and keyboard starts adding letters on its own. The worst Apple performance ever. Every upgrade continues to illustrate the degradation of Apple as a product/software provider. Pretty comparable to the old Microsoft days when you had to keep rebooting. That's the story of my life last 3 days..

So I've used Apple support three times via their chat feature.

Given that I had already tried a DFU restore, the first had me try "Reset All Settings" on the iPhone. After a bit of time I concluded that didn't work.

Next step was to backup the phone (full backup) on iTunes and then do an erase and setup as a new phone. This puts it so it only has Apple software and has the effect of determining if any of the non-Apple software is the cause. After a few days I concluded it still had the problem.

Apple tech support said this then means it has a hardware problem. The next chat person connected to my phone remotely and after I authorized in the Analytics section of Privacy (it goes by different names -- advertising and analytics I think), did a hardware diagnostic. Turned up clean. I highly recommend using the free Apple chat for "touchscreen not working as expected" to see if they will do this diagnostic remotely and tell you if you have a hardware problem. Each of us might have different issues going on so you might get a different result than I did.

But that person said the next step was to go to an Apple store. Did that. The analytics the tech did was about the same as they do remotely with a couple other smaller checks. Came up clean again. BUT! He said it must have a hardware problem. Could be the logic board or the touchscreen so a new phone is the best bet. I was left with these choices: 1) suffer 2) replace the phone for a few hundred bucks 3) upgrade to a new phone via the iPhone upgrade program (which is the price of the phone divided by 24 as monthly payments for 24 months -- no interest!). I decided the guy was probably right. I'd dropped the phone too many times or caused an issue that day I got caught in the rain and it got too much moisture under my jacket.

What this means then is: millions of people have iPhone 6 phones (and 5s etc.) and Apple is still exchanging bad phones like mine with the same model. But only some people have the problem. So it is not the software. There is no bug. There is, however, something in 10.3.1 and 10.3.2 that reveals a hardware problem and instead of giving a coherent message, it gives funny behavior like most computer hardware problems do. I think it is getting stuck in an diagnostic routine as it periodically scans the bad hardware. So we can say Apple caused the problem, but the point is the problem does not exist on phones that do not have a hardware problem. So we can all be mad our hardware problem didn't cause issues until 10.3.1, but we had an underlying hardware problem.

Anyway, that's my logic. Be persuaded or stay mad/sad/frustrated. Or figure out the real cause and solution if you think mine is not the one :-)

I've moved on to a new phone. Good luck all. And really do try the free Apple chat tech support. But most likely at the end of it you are looking at repair or replace. :-(

I have an iPhone 6plus, and am having the same problems. I don't see any real solutions here. I can't even use my phone most of the day. This is ridiculous. We all paid a substantial amount of money for these phones that now won't even work!?! I guess I will need to get a new phone. It sure won't be another iPhone though. I'm not investing that kind of money, then dealing with this. This is unacceptable. I have been a loyal customer for many years, not anymore!

Yes, my wife and I are on an iPhone 5S and 6. iPhone 6 never saw the issue on 10.3.1 but 5S got up to 1 minute lockups for over a year (with 10.3.0?)—mostly in Contacts. Updated to 10.3.2 last week (thought I waited long enough for bugs to work out).

iPhone 5S simply was black screen (off?) when picked up to use about 3 times. Held down the on/off and touch sensor buttons and it rebooted. Not a permanent fix.

iPhone 6 still has the lock up problem, but not as often.

I paid for the multi-touch disease replacement programme for my iphone 6 plus and then restored the brand new phone from backup. Exactly the same issue within an hour or 2 so got another appointment this week with the geniuses to see if get any more details.

Can't see how this can't be firmware related or a particular piece of software related, though not sure I trust the phone build any more. Thinking of using the 90 day warranty you get with the replacement to see if I can get some kind of refund for an 8.

What is funny is when you ring apple support up to talk about the issue, they refuse to look on this thread. They insist you describe it down the phone to them and just ignore you and actually try to hang-up when you keep telling them just to look at this thread which will explain everything.

i guess if they read this then they are acknowledging that it is an apple issue rather than a phone issue. So frustrating.
