iPhone 6 screen freezes after iOS 10.3.1 update

It's the first time it happens to me, after updating to the latest IOS the phone started working wrong, the screen freezes, it turns off alone and it opens apps and chats without touching the screen. I think it's a problem of the update as many iphone 6 an iphone 6 plus are having the same issue. I tried almost everything but it didn't worked.

I'll be very grateful if you can solve it.

Hi, ff80uru!

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

After reading your post, I understand that the touch screen on your iPhone 6 is not functioning as expected; it will become unresponsive at times, and other times it will select apps without input from you. You've also noticed that the iPhone will unexpectedly shut down. I rely on my iPhone every day, so I know it's important for it to work as expected. I'd be happy to help.

To troubleshoot the touch screen of your iPhone, I recommend utilizing this article: If the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond to touch

You can use the instructions here to help with the iPhone unexpectedly shutting down: If your iOS device restarts or displays the Apple logo or a spinning gear unexpectedly

If you continue to have trouble with your iPhone 6 after using those articles, please get in touch with Apple Support directly for additional assistance. You can reach them here: Contact Apple Support

Have a lovely day.

This has happened to me twice. Had 70% battery life and phone went blank. I panicked as nothing worked, not even powering it on or plugging it in for an hour. A friend told me to hold the home and power button down for 10 seconds. That's the only way the phone turned back on. But it's happened again a couple days later. Tonight I just realized there was a recent update to 10.3.1 and searched and found this thread. So glad I'm. It loosing my mind!

I have a similar but not so widespread issue as you. Definitely this was coincident with the 10.3.1 update. My phone will often lock up and will need a reset (home + sleep button) to return responsiveness. Most often, this will occur after using the message app. I am waiting for apple to do one of their quiet updates to fix this as I'm getting close to looking for my next phone and the Samsung S8 could be looking good.

When I first started experiencing this problem I was on a beta version of 10.3.1. So I reset my phone back to the latest official version and my phone was back to normal. After I updated to the official 10.3 i started experiencing the same problem. So I can definitely narrow it down that is a software bug.

I had the same thing happen to my phone. I went into the Apple store after attempting all of the restarts and fixes for over a week. They said that it was due to a failure in the phone. It was possibly due to the mother board in the phone. Would the software update be able to mess up the hardware? I am still looking for answers to see if the new update with bring my phone back. It is completely dead now, and I had to buy a new one. I had the 10.3.1 update on the old phone.

Did you buy another iPhone? I have googled problem & other iPhone users have logged this problem years ago. So has me wondering if this touch screen prob is actually a software upgrade or hardware problem. Whatever it is, Apple has known about it for some years now & the fact it is still occurring gives the impression nothing has been done to resolve. I wonder how many others who experienced this problem went out & bought new iPhones? Some people also experienced touch screen problems on their new iPhones. If anything this problem is raising more questions than it is answers.

Hi AdamB86,

Just wondering did you buy another iPhone or Android? If you bought a iPhone what OS is it using & is it operating OK. The problems we are having are strange & intermittent & affecting some people & not others. My partner has same model iPhone but having no problems as yet. So I must check his & see what OS it is running but I'm pretty sure he said it did a software update a few days ago.

It's a real bugger (not a cheap fix) to have to go buy another phone.

I bought the iPhone 7. It runs the update well so far. I have not had any trouble, but several of my friends with iPhone 6 are having issues. My college friend's iPhone 7 is working well on the update, but even the mac guys in his office have had major failures with the iPhone 6. They are trained to fix Apple products, and they can't fix them.

Well the plot thickens! Fingers crossed your new iPhone 7 keeps running ok under new update. Perhaps only iPhone 6 & earlier are affected. I checked my partners iPhone 5c & its running OS 10.2 (14C92) & no problems. So he's not going to update just in case. Just thinking maybe a conspiracy to get people to purchase iPhone 7.

not really I think.

I am facing same issues like app crashing and random restarts on my iPhone 6s plus and I have run diagnostic by contacting Apple Support on Twitter. They are really helpful and after running diagnostics, they said my iPhone hardware isn't affected but at the same time they say that there are no such known issues in iOS Software latest version 10.3.1

Here is the rundown of my instance of this problem:

-Went to bed and left my iPhone 5 on with a Bluetooth alarm app called AirAlarm2 on.

-Woke up to my phone at 1% power despite it having been plugged into the wall all night. It wasn't the outlet or the app (I have used it many times before without this issue).

-I plugged the phone into a different outlet and closed all my applications and changed the phone to low-power mode. It started charging.

-While in the power settings menu, I noticed that the messages app used 66% of my battery in the last 24 hours, which seemed very abnormal, so I went to open the messages app only to find that the phone had stopped operating; the messages app icon stayed darkened as if it was frozen in a pressed state, but the app didn't open. When clicking the icon again, it depressed and looked normal again. Still, the messages app didn't open. The phone reacted to sliding the home window left and right, but none of the other apps responded either, and all reacted in a similar way. App groupings didn't expand, either.

-I left the phone for a minute and the screen locked. At this point, I arrived at an issue I had had three times before, within the previous couple of days. The screen remained black, no matter what button was pressed or held, with the exception of both the home and lock buttons, which was my only way of giving my phone a hard reset/temporary fix. Despite it's unresponsiveness, I could tell the phone was still on because muting and then un-muting the sound resulted in a vibration, and unplugging then plugging my phone in resulted in the charging sound. Also, while in this state, I tried holding the lock button to turn it off and after a few seconds of holding it, I swiped my finger from left to right at the top of the screen as if it still displayed the power-down slide-bar, but nothing happened (I could tell it was still on by the same means in the last sentence).

-It seems as though it is an issue with the software, and this only started happening after I updated to iOS 10.3.1.

After updating my iPhone 6s i have the same problems like all the other Users in this threat.

The Apple Support said to me that i need to reinstall the iOS 10.3.1 by connecting the iphone to my computer and then i should press the homebutton and the powerbutton till i See an cable Icon...

After reinstall the 10.3.1 software it is not possible to use the touch screen - there is no reaction.

In the Apple Store the Dummies say to me that it will be a problem with the Display and that i must pay for reparing the iPhone Display...

It´s unbelievable that Apple dont read the Threads in theyre Communities - there is no Reaction from Apple Side.

We have 4 IPhones, 3 IPads and 3 Apple Watchs... I think i will offer them by Ebay and will change my Equipement to Samsung.... F.... Apple.
