iPhone 6 screen freezes after iOS 10.3.1 update

It's the first time it happens to me, after updating to the latest IOS the phone started working wrong, the screen freezes, it turns off alone and it opens apps and chats without touching the screen. I think it's a problem of the update as many iphone 6 an iphone 6 plus are having the same issue. I tried almost everything but it didn't worked.

I'll be very grateful if you can solve it.

Hi, ff80uru!

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

After reading your post, I understand that the touch screen on your iPhone 6 is not functioning as expected; it will become unresponsive at times, and other times it will select apps without input from you. You've also noticed that the iPhone will unexpectedly shut down. I rely on my iPhone every day, so I know it's important for it to work as expected. I'd be happy to help.

To troubleshoot the touch screen of your iPhone, I recommend utilizing this article: If the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond to touch

You can use the instructions here to help with the iPhone unexpectedly shutting down: If your iOS device restarts or displays the Apple logo or a spinning gear unexpectedly

If you continue to have trouble with your iPhone 6 after using those articles, please get in touch with Apple Support directly for additional assistance. You can reach them here: Contact Apple Support

Have a lovely day.

Yes, my wife and I are on an iPhone 5S and 6. iPhone 6 never saw the issue on 10.3.1 but 5S got up to 1 minute lockups for over a year (with 10.3.0?)—mostly in Contacts. Updated to 10.3.2 last week (thought I waited long enough for bugs to work out).

iPhone 5S simply was black screen (off?) when picked up to use about 3 times. Held down the on/off and touch sensor buttons and it rebooted. Not a permanent fix.

iPhone 6 still has the lock up problem, but not as often.

I paid for the multi-touch disease replacement programme for my iphone 6 plus and then restored the brand new phone from backup. Exactly the same issue within an hour or 2 so got another appointment this week with the geniuses to see if get any more details.

Can't see how this can't be firmware related or a particular piece of software related, though not sure I trust the phone build any more. Thinking of using the 90 day warranty you get with the replacement to see if I can get some kind of refund for an 8.

What is funny is when you ring apple support up to talk about the issue, they refuse to look on this thread. They insist you describe it down the phone to them and just ignore you and actually try to hang-up when you keep telling them just to look at this thread which will explain everything.

i guess if they read this then they are acknowledging that it is an apple issue rather than a phone issue. So frustrating.

I'm using iPhone 6 on IOS 10.3.3, I suffer the same problem too. screen freezes a few times everyday.

Have to lock and unlock the screen to unfreeze the screen. Sometimes it becomes too laggy and I had no choice but to do a hard reboot and the same problem again and again..

I'd like to think it's the IOS problem

Same problem with iPhone 6 since IOS 10...(?) update and now even with IOS 11 Beta. Sometimes it happens, that it seems like a ghost is tapping on the display and apps open and close, letters are written without any touch. And the other time the screen freezes. I consider to change and go back to an Android Phone again if Apple does´t fix it now. IOS 11 is even worse... wlan and bluetooth are not shut off, when hit in in control center. Now you have to go to settings and scroll to the items to close wlan or bluetooth. What a ****.

Hi there!

Had the same problem, getting worse from day to day, but it looks like an issue with TouchID and/or Passcode!

I use TouchID to unlock the iPhone and the Passcode (4 Digits).

Yesterday i disabled both: Settings ==> TouchID & Passcode ==> entering 4 Digits ==> iPhone Unlock slider to off ==> Turn Passcode Off

Now almost every tap on the screen resulted in screen freeze (a real nightmare!), but i was able to go to Settings ==> TouchID & Passcode again and turned the Passcode on. Now i had to enter 6 Digits(!!) for a new passcode.

I deleted the finger prints, made new ones, and turned TouchID to on again.

Since then not a single freeze!

Hello there I had the same issue with iPhone 6s plus overheating and screen becoming unresponsive and phone starting to type and opening applications and emails by itself. Very frustrating and annoying. Did a complete reset and set as new phone as well as use a backup w/o any improvement; I also went to apple who ran diagnostics and didn't find anything wrong with the phone and recommended upgrading to new phone. I started to notice some faint small light grey squares along the top of the screen and decided to bite the bullet and replaced my screen. I did this about 2 weeks ago and have not had any issues since then. I believe that touch disease is also occurring on iPhone 6s plus despite the re-positioning of the touch ic chips.

yes, i have 6s plus and having this issue since couple of months.

Also visited the local apple store and they expect me to change the screen with a fee of $149 which doesnt make sense to me.

I have no single scratch on my phone and have never ever dropped it.

Apple iPhone is using its credibility and reliability day by day.

I also upgraded to ios11 this morning and since then its been working without a single freeze.

So it turns out to be Apple s/w issue then why the heck Apple has been saying its not their issue but the phone-drop issue.

Moreover they were recommending to change the screen for $149. Whoever had changed their screen as a solution for this freeze issue should ask for the refund.

good for you..i was also planning to sale my iPhone and get new android....After this freeze issue which started just after 1 year of my phone..i started to hate iPhones....quality/performance/innovations all have degraded in recent years...iPhone is just a HYPE now ..its no better than a cheap Chinese phones...

This headache issue(software issue) happened after iOS10.2, there is no way to solve it except to replace it with a new phone.I am the one of the users that changed the screen. I am pretty sure Apple will never to offer any refund for the issue even it is their software issue.

Another similar headache issue(hardware issue) on iphone6 and iphone 6s is iphone 6/6s unexpected shutdown. But Apple only offer recall for iphone6s without iphone6.

Maybe iPhone 6 is too old and it is out of their warranty policy.
