Hi there, Henry!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you have issues with your Mac being locked. Changing your passwords is a great step to start with. We also suggest checking out this article If you think your Apple ID has been compromised to be sure your Apple ID is totally secure.

For the issue specifically with your Mac being locked, what you are seeing is what happens when using this article iCloud: Use Lost Mode . Specifically, since you do not know the passcode to unlock the screen:

Turn off Lost Mode or change your contact info

You can turn off Lost Mode by entering the passcode on the device, or by following the steps below. You can also follow the steps below to change the contact information displayed on your lost device.

Note: If your credit and debit cards for Apple Pay were suspended because you put your device in Lost Mode, when you turn off Lost Mode and sign in to iCloud, you can resume using your cards.

  1. Go to Find My iPhone on iCloud.com.

If you don’t see Find My iPhone on iCloud.com, your account just has access to iCloud web-only features. To gain access to Find My iPhone and other iCloud features, set up iCloud on your iOS device or Mac.

  2. Click All Devices, then select the device that’s in Lost Mode.

  3. Click Lost Mode, then change the information or click Stop Lost Mode.

Have a great day!

Since my Mac locked, I leave it till today, I am not shut it down, just close the lid 🙈.

Today, I open my Mac, and the battery totally drain, and I put my charge in to it.

and TADAAAAA...!!! all back to normal ✌✌✌✌😁😁😁.

except, it required my existing iCloud account password.

I am not sure but maybe Apple unlock my Mac.. beside my iPad still no issue with this case 😎.

my apology if I reply your question, I am still exiting

just leave the mac with the lid (screen) closed without shutting down.

may be about 3-4 days, depend on your mac's battery standby time.

make sure your mac's battery totally drain before you open the lid.

I think there is no related with mac version (year production) because this case related to iCloud account.

Hi Mayorofseremban,

To be more specific: yesterday I've had the same problem. My iCloud login was stolen and my devices were put in lost mode. I gained control over my iPhone by changing the iCloud password. My iPad needed a factory reset because it kept asking for a passcode that wasn't set up by me. This was also a relatively quick fix and thanks to the iCloud backup my iPad was back to normal pretty soon.

When I've opened my Macbook Pro the locked screen was shown, asking me for a 6-digit code. There was also a message asking me for contacting applehelp@caramail.com. Off course I didn't contact that person.

Searching on the internet for similar problems (there can be found a lot!) I ran into this topic and thought by myself that it doesn't hurt to try.

At that moment my Mac was connected to the internet by Wifi. I pulled out the power plug, left my screen open and just waited untill the battery was completely dead. Just before that happends a battery indicator pops up and after that your Mac shuts down. I've waited another hour (to be sure) and reconnected the power cable. Then I've restarted my Mac and the lock screen with pass code was gone. I was able to get full access again. When I checked the find my iPhone page in iCloud my Mac was no longer locked and reported as lost.

I'm using a late 2016 Macbook Pro, 13 inch with touch bar, running MacOS 10.12.16

Draining the battery took me about 12 hours plus an extra hour waiting. Hopefully this helps you and other victims.

By the way, I don't use my iCloud email address for communicating. I only use it for my Apple ID.

No need waiting too long time for waiting.. depend on % battery remain when I turning it off ( I took about 3 hrs with 2 phone and iPad charged on usb port).

Just make sure your Mac battery totally drain.

When your PC turned-off it self into sleep mode because of low battery power, actually it's still have battery power.

Open the lid (or close then open the lid if your Mac's lid opened), until no more battery icon appear (it appear after open the lid within 10-40 secs, so you need waiting about that time and try again).

I got mine normal again now.

Exact same with me. Apple is refusing to fix it and I'm going back and forth with customer service and the manager within the store refused to help without proof of purchase. I explained to him it's been under my ownership under my name on my Apple ID and iCloud for years. It was a gift and I don't have proof of purchase. This is clearly an issue that Apple is refusing to face right now. And I'm completely locked out, I'm a student and I need my laptop to study as well as other tasks for school. I don't know what to do. I'm letting the battery drain but it's been on standby and won't completely die for almost 3 days now. (Lid open)

Sorry to hear that happen to you,

opened lid in sleep mode took long time to drained your mac battery.

close the lid, then open it, and wait for a minute to check any sign on screen..

wait until your mac back in to sleep mode.

close the lid and open again and wait for any screen sign.

do it few times until no more any sign on screen (such as battery icon or apple logo).

do not put power charge while doing this or until you very sure that your mac battery totally drain

once you can get into your mac... do backup any of your data.

I hope it can help you

Good luck.

Yeah.. as I said, when your screen blank on opened lid, it may be in sleep mode.
Close the lid then open it, if it still shown the battery icon then wait till screen back to sleep.

do that steps few times until no more sign occur on your screen.

I am not sure how many long (seconds) took to showing that battery sign.. just make sure no more screen activity when you open your lid.

Aug 23, 2017 10:10 AM in response to SeanHV

Oh sorry, my bad, same thing when you open or press any key or power button from sleep mode.. not only close or open the lid.

I did it yesterday the steps I wrote above, I was on your situation which is screen still shown the battery icon, I can't get in to my mac, but after no more battery sign, now I am using my mac now

by the way, if you have unused phone, maybe you can plug the usb port into your mac ( any unused device with usb charge option) , I mean same way when you charging your phone, may be can help your mac battery discharged
I am not recommended using your current phone to avoid phone's battery become broken.

same problem here as well, my macbook pro and imac are locked and no option to go out of locked mode in icloud.

spend hours on the phone, apple support is clearly not prepared for issues like this and other IT companies are amazed by how we are supposed to solve this. one of the guys i spoke to at apple support wanted to end the conversation by telling me it could be that i would lose all my data, i interrupted him and told him that i didnt want to hear that and he just kept on trying to state while i kept saying that i didnt want to hear that and finally he did manage to say it, i'm still wondering why i didnt shout at the guy that when a customer clearly states he doesnt want to hear something he should stop being a **** robot and just let the customer be....

trying to drain the battery now, hooked up some devices that use usb power to speed it up and tomorrow morning going to the apple store with my imac and hoping they have a spot otherwise going to have to wait till friday. i'll update my status as i get further

I tried the battery draining method, but it didn't work. In fact it is supposed not to work.

The password is a firmware password that is flashed to a memory on the motherboard. Once it is flashed there, you can drain the power as much as you want, the password lock will never be erased. Maybe this worked on older macs, but certainly not on the newer. Otherwise implementing this feature would be useless.

I was in the Apple store, with my macbook (and proof of purchase). He promised me it would be fixed in less than 4 hours. It turned out to be less than 2.🙂 🙂

The guy had excellent knowledge, and was very friendly. He also promised me the data would be intact, and it was. My macbook was in the same state, as before it was locked.🙂🙂

I told him, I had still a locked iMac at home, without a proof of purchase, as I bought it second hand. He told me, he would have unlocked it as well, even without the proof, as it was clear I was victim of hacking. Unfortunately I didn't have the iMac there, it is standing somewhere else.

He told me it would depend on the clerk in the shop at home, if he would accept to unlock it without the proof of purchase.

I have the same issue with my 2010 Macbook that is 2nd hand from Ebay. I'm now petrified because my iMac is 7 years old and I purchased from Best Buy and of course I no longer have the receipt. As of right now that one didn't get locked.

So I've been trying the battery drain on the Macbook and it's been dead for at least 8 hours, but the lock is still there every time I reboot with the charger. Either my Macbook isn't dead enough or the hackers must have figured this out. I have an appointment on Friday, but going to run in there later this evening to see if I can get seen. Fingers crossed they accept my ebay invoice.
