Voice control problem over bluetooth

Hi,

after updating to IOS 11 i've lost ability to dial contacts throught voice control over bluetooth devices. We don't have siri in our language, but voice control worked well when I wanted to call someone (when I'm driving a car or motorcycle).

When I engage voice control without bt device connected it works. (I say "call Jane", and phone says "calling jane").

When I try to do the same in my car voice control enages but doesn't do anything. (I say "call Jane" and phone just makes two beeps and disconnects. Those beeps are different from beeps that are made when no action is made after activating voice control.) Symptom is like it hears what I'm saying but does nothing.

iPhone 7, iOS 11, null

The key for anyone posting in this thread is to contact the device manufacturer and find out when/if they will be releasing a firmware update to be compatible with iOS 11. Just because you have the latest firmware doesn't mean you have a version that is compatible with iOS 11 and has been tested. And no, this is not just an Apple/iOS issue. If you search Android forums the exact same thing happens on updates for Android devices as well. The exact same instructions are reiterated there in that you must contact the device manufacturer. Very rarely will an update to iOS or Android's OS will fix these type of issues. It's up to the device manufacturer.

I Think all the engeneers have wi-fi on-the-go, allways using siri, and don’t give a f.... for those who use voice control. Now I cannot use my phone for his MAIN purpose. Can I come back with a good lawyer if this disfunction causes a car accident? Or should I throw my phone on the highway and (definitivly) go on with Samsung?

"Sorry but telling Bluetooth manufacturers to get their devices to work with iOS 11 is no different than telling the thousands upon thousands of developers to make sure their app is compatible with the iPhone X."

Sorry; and that explains the multiples of Bluetooth headsets that worked on a 6 & 6+, running iOS 11.0, 11.1, and all the subsequent betas how exactly?

Thanks for your info, anypats.

Maybe I've not searched deeply enought on so many forums where this issue is discussed. It´s the first time that I know about someone not having problems with Voice Control over Bluetooth after iOS 11.

Just to be clear. Can you confirm please:

  1. You don't have problems on yous Honda Bluetooth connection using Voice Control?
  2. It's really Voice Control that you have tested or use and not Siri?
  3. I'ts your phone an iPhone with the iOS 11.0 or later updated?
  4. Jaillbreaked?
  5. Can you voice dialling with Voice Control over your Honda's Bluetooth with th command "Call [contact_name]"?
  6. Can you make Voice Control, on or off a bluetooth connection, to play musics from tour music library when use commands like: "play [artist_name]", "play album [album_name]" or "play music [music_name]"?

Good news, the engineers at Apple know the difference between Voice Control and Siri 😉

And to reiterate, Siri is only as good as your cellular or internet connection. THAT'S why classic Voice Control is important. As of today, I haven't heard back from anyone at Apple re: the sysdiagnose files I uploaded through their bug reporting site. I just downloaded 11.2 b1 and will report soon if anythings changed. Likewise, any beta testers out there experiencing the same issues?

Same problema.

iPhone 5s UNDESIRELY updated to IOS 11.0.3. Voice control engage correctly without bt device, but it DOESN'T WOTK with ANY bt device: headphones, car,...

On the other hand, IOS 11 is a big problem fon an iPhone 5s. I didn't like to instal it. Everytime the opereating system asked me to proceed to instal this ugly update, I rejected. I guess that one of the insistent emergent Windows asked me, I probably pressed by mistake "yes". Since then, everything are problems. I tried to stop the instalation. Impossible. Then I tried immediately to restore my previous backup. Impossible too, the way back to 10.0.3 is forbidden because it is no longer signed by Apple. The iPhone is now slow, all my old 32bits apps, many of them necessary for my work wich are not updated to 64 bits, doesn't work. The keyboard gooes sloooooow. Writting WhatsApp messages is a torture. Battery goes off in 4 hours... and now, increasing problems, this boetooth affair. Nor the car neither the headphones work.

I am evaluating to change my phone, because Apple seems to have decide that it shoud not work any longer thanks to this IOS reléase- However, sincerely, after 10 years using Apple devices, you are convincing me to move to Android.

".......One thing that I haven't seen being discussed by any of the previous posts is that in my case, my phone recognizes my voice when I use voice calls over the car's bluetooth. I know this because I can see the name of the person I have asked iphone to call on the phone's screen for a flash of a second. The name then disappears before the phone confirms the phone number I asked it to call......."

True. The same applies with headset BT Plantronics

Also to repeat that voice control works perfectly OK when no BT device is paired, which, of course, is not of much use.

Perhaps the talking point needs to be that Apple doesn't appear to be concerned with driver safety. Voice Control allows drivers to keep their attention on the road; without it, people wind up putting themselves, their passengers, and other vehicles in danger.

If people marshaled a campaign around that, perhaps Apple would listen and address this problem. It has been going on for months. Very disappointed to see all these posts of Apple Support giving people the runaround.

I received "proactive" responses, three or four - I've lost tracking, honestly, and never heard from Apple Support again. One "genius" suggested that I buy a newer version of the BT speaker. When I asked him if he meant I need to buy a new car, because the BT in one of my cars is built-in, I received a response: "LOL". Another "specialist" admitted that she had no clue and that they were instructed to tell the customers to just keep upgrading until the issue is fixed. When, is anyone's guess. What a total fk up this upgrade is. I just cannot believe that Apple SW development brass would sign off on the major iOS upgrade without properly and fully testing it.

I recently received an email from Apple about my bug submission that states that my bug is a duplicate of another bug and will be closed.

I have asked for clarification on why it is being closed but it appears that it may be due to the fact that I copied and pasted information outlining the problem from a post on this forum.

Problem is ongoing.

Thank you.
