Stuck at Verifying iPhone restore

I am trying to restore or update my fathers iPhone 6. It was stuck in a boot loop so I put it in restore mode but for some reason it won’t get past the step where it says verifying iPhone restore. I have tried multiple computers. I also have been trying to do this for some time now. I tried it before os11 was released and had the same issue.

hey mate, I guess I may have figured it out. I was having the same problem, I tried hard reboot and restore, in the first go it got stuck, saying confirmation needed from phone, then I repeated the same process(hard reboot and restore) but without removing the cable, this time it got extracted and went bit forward, then stuck at verifying, then I did the same thing the third time, this time went bit forward and got stuck at apple logo, and showed progress bar(hope comes in), at the fourth repetition progress bar went to complete end and bingo it started restoring the factory setting.

I have no idea why/how it worked but it did, and my phone is alive again, probably it's worth a try for you too, I mean what do you have to lose, wish you luck.

Hi

Turn iPhone off Make sure your pc is running the latest iTunes 12.7.2

Connect lead to USB on your pc Press just the power button down on iPhone don't let go Connect lead to iPhone keep power button pressed down until pc sees iPhone Then wait for restore you may need to do this more than once Before it works.

If you still have a problem make an appointment at Apple store.

Or contact Support.apple.com.

Cheers

Hey mate, it got itself restored back to 11.2.1 (but i guess we can't do much about it), as for your question in next comment, i by hard reset i meant pressing power button and home button then it restarts and i kept it pressing as long as you don't get i-tunes pop up on your pc, saying that something is not right and asking you to confirm restore or some other action related to your iphone, and one more thing i always disconnected/repeated the process when i knew that no process is being run by itunes on my iphone, this you can easily keep check of that with task manager and resource monitor on windows, just wait as long itunes is running something, and when it seems stuck , you'll notice that with constant decreseing numbers in memory, Disk, and memory sections in resource monitor. To be honest at that i didn't really knew what i was doing just trying different stuff so that something might work(old programmer's habit.

hope it helped, feel free to ask further questions if any.

Can someone confirm if they have the same problem with recovery mode and DFU mode, as I have?

I can make my phone enter DFU mode... (press home and power button for 10 seconds, release just power button while keeping home button pressed for another 10 seconds), however, I cannot make my phone enter itunes recovery mode (the one with connect to itunes logo). To enter recovery mode, you have to keep the home and power button pressed until one sees the logo with itunes and the lightning cable. I have tried it for about 2 minutes. No Go.

Hello,

We here at Agent Mobile just discovered something relating to this as we had a number of iPhone 6's in for repairs and deal a lot with these advanced issues. After replacing the battery we were stuck with this same problem (Battery replaced was OEM certified). We feel this is related to an OEM apple battery having the correct voltage and amps to continue the update. After temporarily putting the original depleted batter back in iPhone, the restore process went smoothly. So if anyone is having issues and you still have your OEM battery that is a place to start. If you have never done repairs to your iPhone there may be a deeper issue. Seeing this issue still discussed in 2018 we felt is was needed to mention our resolve solution.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi, have also had this issue and just fixed it - tried 4 or 5 times at home on my imac to complete a restore to iphone which kept failing at this exact verifying point.

Next day took phone to work thinking I was going to have to buy new phone, but tried one more time to download itunes on a work pc, tried the update/restore again and it worked perfectly first time. Just downloaded backup from icloud and phone works fine. Not sure if it was an issue with my home imac or the leads i was using, but worked fine using a fresh itunes instal on a pc - try it if you have access to a different computer, better than the $300 for a refurb!

I took the phone in to apple and they verified that is a logic board failure , it is unfixable it can only be replaced they also told me this problem is not common at all so it is not recognized as an issue I strongly advise everyone to let your local Genius Bar know about this problem! If your phone is under warranty still with no physical damage they will replace for free ! If there is any physical damage to the screen a charge of $149-169 will be charged. Hope this helps

This happened on my daughter's iPhone 6S as well. Not quite two years old, which is really annoying. The phone was physically in perfect condition, and hadn't ever needed any repairs before, but because of this problem, it wasn't even useful as a trade-in. After attempting to update to iOS 11.3, the update failed, and subsequent attempts to update or restore via iTunes on multiple different computers failed. iTunes consistently gave the unknown error message with code 35. I took her phone to a reputable phone repair shop (our local Apple Store sends people there), and they tried replacing the battery, and other parts they could swap out, they even tried replacing the memory chips, and that failed too. In the end, a new logic board was required.

I had this problem just last night - iPhone 6 stuck at verifying update, then stuck at verifying restore when I tried that. Multiple attempts to shut down, reboot, cold start, etc. ... nothing worked. Rebooted the iMac, tried everything again, still no luck.

I plugged the phone into my MacBook instead, and repeated. Again, could not verify the update, but - Ta-da! - I was able to restore the phone from the backup on the second attempt. (I was already looking at replacements on eBay when the progress bar on the phone suddenly started to move.)

Take home lesson is, don't give up too easily. Try another Mac, or even a PC with iTunes installed. I think the problem is a bad download of the update to the Mac, which bricks the phone and makes updating impossible. At least in my case, persistence paid off.

iTunes presented the option when it declared a problem. Plug in the phone, then quit iTunes after it launches. (You might have to force-quit.) Launch iTunes, and it should notice the phone, attempt to finish the update, and present you with the option to try again or to restore. I repeated this twice, and on the second attempt the MacBook was able to talk to the phone and wipe out whatever garbage had bricked it.

I keep my MacBook synced with my iMac, so the backup was available to me. On a different Mac, you might be left with the restored factory settings, but at least - if you get it working - you can take it to your regular Mac and restore your files and preferences.
