WiFI and Bluetooth are ON. AFAIK, the map app would use WiFi hotspots triangulation to get an estimate of the location but it won't be as accurate as GPS, that could explain sometimes I can get a rough location but it is never accurate enough to pin point the location (it would show my location off the road or highway) and cannot give turn-by-by instructions.
If you check now, update 11.0.2 is available and since I updated to that, I have been able to use my GPS. This is after waiting 1 week for a Genius Bar appointment in my city and finding out that that update was released the night before my appointment. I’m just thankful it works. I use Waze daily!
Doesn’t help. I have done this with all navigation based apps. Why won’t Apple just own up to the fact that it is because of a software issue that they rolled out without completely beta testing 0.1, 0.2, or 0.3? Instead they will force their faithful users to live with bugs until they can finally properly beta test 11.1 and maybe(HOPEFULLY) solve ALL of the issues, including this one. However, I continue to hold out little hope because I had the beta for 11.1 including at least one of the beta updates and my location services still wouldn’t work. Maybe they are just forcing people into upgrading to the iPhone 8 since their sales for that model have vastly underperformed what was expected. Samsung and Google are looking sweeter by the day...
I also have an iPhone 6 and ever since upgrading to iOS 11, I can no longer use any mapping apps (Google Maps, Waze, or Apple Maps) as it says ‘No GPS trying moving outdoors’. It works when I use it in my house with Wi-Fi, but does not work when I am driving. It use to work all the time when I was driving (same location) - I have done everything that has been recommended here and I still get no GPS.
No need to be salty, I just don’t understand why you and others can’t accept that the almighty Apple may have rolled out a really buggy iOS. It is well documented that this is probably the smallest of the issues plaguing iOS 11.0, too...
A buggy IOS would impact millions of users and that’s clearly not the case. Why are you absolutely refusing to go to an Apple Store to give them the opportunity to try to fix your phone? Are you NEVER wrong?
Again, I really don’t care. If you can live with the problem, I’m not going to criticize.
Honestly if I didn’t have to travel an hour to get to the nearest Genius Bar I would give them a shot. The last time I visited a “genius” for a bad battery they told me I had to replace the entire phone because the battery was bulging and had separated the glass so the cost of a new battery and display wouldn’t be worth a replacement. So I went home and bought a new battery and opened it myself to find a battery that wasn’t bulging even a little bit, and what was just a bent case. Replaced the battery and haven’t had a single issue with my phone until upgrading to iOS 11.
All I am asking is how I can have literally used a gps app the day before an upgrade and it navigates perfectly for a 2 hour drive, then I upgrade to iOS 11 and it literally can’t even get me out of my neighborhood without thinking I am 6 miles away. That’s the only question I have. Literally nothing else changed.
I have had this problem with my iPhone 6 as well, all of my software is up to date, location services are one, everything in my phone is correct. I have not been able to see any turn by turn directions due to the lack of GPS and as I am living in a new area it has become hazardous while I am driving. This is obviously not a hardware issue and I hope Apple resolves the issue soon as I am not up for an upgrade until next August.
Apple has been very disappointing and I am considering switching to Samsung.
That doesn't work, either.
Things tried (and failed) so far:
- turn location services off, restart phone, turn loc services back on - nothing
- reset location services (different process than above) - nothing
- remove and reinstall Waze (primary map app) - nothing
- turn ALL signals off - cellular, wifi, bluetooth, location - restart, turn back on - nothing
- install iOS 11 updates as soon as available so far - nothing Currently on 11.1.1
As usual Apple's "best" solution is "best" for your pocket.
Try to hit the back side of the phone against your leg while a navigation app is running. Hit should be strong enough. Sometimes it fixes the problem for me. Maybe antenna connection went loose or an apple's software bug fixes itself when an accelerometer gets a good boost =)
thx wyt168, that is exactly my problem after OS11 update on 6s.
it initially finds GPS in google maps, apple maps and strava, but then fails to get updated reading until after 4 min or so.
*** apple?
fix it.

I've posted probable solution here but apple has removed it.
We removed your post “My iPhone 6 since upgrading can’t find GPS” because it discussed inappropriate activities.
So this is wrong place to discuss a fix here.
PS: I have my GPS working again.
I have tha same problem and it's super annoying. I wish Apple tested these updates before launching them. this is my last Apple product. Tired of all the BS updates that never work and slows my apple products down. Done with Apple.
This is an issue related to the IOS verison, please take a look on the comments, it was triggered after upgrade to IOS 11, before that GPS was working perfectly, I don't know why you cannot understand that
Dozens of threads with hundreds of people having this same issue. Mine has been unworkable for over a month. Reset everything and restored the phone. Been on the phone with Apple techs three times. All they can tell me to do is restore the phone again or buy a new one. Clearly its a widespread issue.
I have the same issue ever since I upgraded to iOS 11 and update after update. Doesn't get resolved. The guys at the Apple store did an update to their satisfaction which didn't help. I can't go back to iOS 10.3 as Apple is no more allowing customers to install. The guys at the geiuns bar suggested to buy a new phone. Genius!
