How do I remove the music player from the lock screen in iOS 11?

I need to see my notifications. I don't use the music player... I will NEVER use the music player. It's taking up valuable real estate.

Thanks!

I'm confused. The Music player on the lock screen, only appears if you are actively playing something when you turn on the screen. If you have not been playing anything, or pause it and unlock the iPhone and then turn off the iPhone, the playback section should disappear. It will not disappear if you just pause from the lock screen and turn if off.

Otherwise its not there, and you just need to swipe up to get the notifications.

However, you'll always need to swipe up to see notifications though, and they'll take over the space used by the playback controls any way even if they are there. Notifications are no longer shown directly in the lock screen, and need to be revealed by swiping up regardless.

Hey! So I had this same issue, which is how I found your post. Somehow I just managed to get it to go away. I closed all my apps (with the double click home button and swipe up), I also opened safari and made sure all tabs were closed from there (read a post that said if you have a tab that could've been playing a video it will also stay on lock screen), then opened the music app and fully closed it again and now the music controls are gone from my lock screen. Not exactly sure what worked, but I figured I'd tell you what I did to see if it works for you.

I found that this is happening any time I put my AirPods in, even if I don't start playing music. I can open a music player and everything will be fine, but the Music player on the lock screen does remain even after I've put the AirPods away and closed all music apps. When I swiped up on my iPhone X to show all open apps (only had Messages running), the bottom of the screen said Pandora was connected to my AirPods (but Pandora wasn't open). When I uninstalled Pandora the issue went away. It could be an annoying issue that's caused by some app that you have used to play audio in the past, so I would recommend checking if you have any visual indicators when double tapping your home button about whether or not any audio players are detected. In any case, the problem to me seems to be more at the OS level in this case, because if a third party app having an audio player detected is causing any sort of visual to appear on the lock screen, I would expect it to be the widget for the app causing the issue, not the Music App itself.

When I uninstalled Pandora, the "audio player" icon I talked about still appeared while I was viewing what other Apps were open while my bluetooth headset was in, but the Music App widget stopped appearing on the lock screen. So that seems to have been what it was for me. There's likely an incompatibility issue that you're experiencing with some other App. It's annoying and probably can be fixed on Apple's end, but we'll see if it's a big enough issue for them to feel it needs addressing.

This seemed to be worth posted at the beginning instead of page 17. I have had the same problem for two weeks. One person said that using an Apple TV app caused his, and I used it with youtube right before my lock screen problem. Not sure on this part.

I have no idea why this fixed my problem, but it did. I did a complete power down holding the side button and then swiping the power down bar. My phone was not plugged in. I held down the bottom button and plugged the phone in with my cable. When it came up, the music player was gone from my lock screen. I had powered down the phone several times, with no luck. This plugging it in while booting it up seemed to make a difference. I saw this in a What to Do if your phone locks up while doing an ISO upgrade. I don't seen any correlation, but I do know that mine is now fixed.

Good Luck everyone.

Hello, I had the same problem. I have followed the open the music player, then double click on the home button the swipe up on the music player to close it. Just like you, It did not work for me either. BUT! What i have noticed is that there is nothing to play on the music player stuck on the lock screen. So i opened the music app and started one of my songs. Then double clicked the home button and swiped up to close the music app. And that worked.

It is definitely a bug, something keeps the music app stuck on the lock screen. The only thing i have done is to unplug my earphones without stopping or closing the music app. Might have nothing to do with it though.

This was an issue for me on my iPhone X. It was Bluetooth related. As aforementioned, the “fix” is to unpair all Bluetooth devices, restart the phone, and then repair Bluetooth devices. Apple should fix this minor (yet incredibly annoying) bug with a future software update. Until then, I highly recommend unpairing and restarting. It’s nice to have my lock screen back.

I was able to get the music player to stop appearing on the lock screen by quitting all open apps (double-pressing the “home” button, then swiping up on each open app), and then powering-down the phone (holding the power button until the “slide to power off” message appeared, then sliding as instructed). When I turned the phone back on, the music player stopped showing up in the lock screen.

Not to worry. The fix (until Apple addresses the bug with a software update) is to:

1 - unpair your car’s Bluetooth from your phone.

2 - Restart your phone.

3 - Then pair your car’s bluetooth again.

Now, the music player sheet on the lock screen will go back to disappearing after you get out of your car and away from the Bluetooth source automatically.

You only have to do this process once. The bug lies somewhere in your paired Bluetooth device settings. Unpairing and setting up the Bluetooth device as new eliminates the bug.

Good luck!

Depending on the programs you use the player will eventually come back. There are numerous games, websites (in Safari) and other apps that may try to use it again.

What you will have to do in that case is close all apps that could potentially use it. This includes some apps that play ads every so often in full screen. You also want to close the tabs in Safari that want to play a video or sound, like YouTube for example.

And of course you will have to stop Apple Music from playing.

Following all these steps, you shouldn‘t see the player when you don’t want to.

If you do, feel free to let me know. I don’t want to spread false suggestions.

Here is how I removed it from the lock screen, at least temporarily. I open music app double clicked home button and swiped the app up to remove. I then turned off the phone by holding on/off button down until “swipe to shut down” is displayed. Swipe it to shut down. Wait for 30 seconds and turn phone on by holding the on/off because wn until the phone turns on. One caveat is I have seen other posts saying it may still reappear later. Good luck.

I also had this issue but never used the music player. I even deleted my music app and it was still there until I closed down all my tabs and then finally restarted my phone. Now it's finally gone. I'm not sure if deleting the app was necessary or if just restarting the phone would have been sufficient. Either way, it's gone now at least.
