I need to see my notifications. I don't use the music player... I will NEVER use the music player. It's taking up valuable real estate.

I'm confused. The Music player on the lock screen, only appears if you are actively playing something when you turn on the screen. If you have not been playing anything, or pause it and unlock the iPhone and then turn off the iPhone, the playback section should disappear. It will not disappear if you just pause from the lock screen and turn if off.
Otherwise its not there, and you just need to swipe up to get the notifications.
However, you'll always need to swipe up to see notifications though, and they'll take over the space used by the playback controls any way even if they are there. Notifications are no longer shown directly in the lock screen, and need to be revealed by swiping up regardless.

Maybe me was a temp fix after I deleted the app, but it lingers here and there instead of all the time

I read and tried everything in this thread and still have the same issue. Sound like Apple has a problem and needs to fix it.
Exactly. Lots of things work temporarily, then it pops up again. Apple seems to be ignoring this issue.
